The Troll Empire and the War of the Aqir
Spoiler Notice: This installment covers the conflict between the ancient troll civilization of Kalimdor and the Aqir, and the subsequent connections between the splintered races. It does not equate modern Zandalar and Amani with their ancient forms, and distinguishes between old records regarding Kith'ix and the scope of the official 2026 announcement.
1. A Continent Not Yet Divided
If one remembers the map of Azeroth only by its current continental shape, the ancient history of the trolls appears as a story of small, distant nations from the beginning. However, the stage of this era is Kalimdor before it was shattered by the Great Sundering. Communities that grew along ancient forests and mountain ranges were neighbors within a single continent.

Life flourished rapidly around the Well of Eternity. The trolls who settled in those forests and jungles expanded their lives by hunting and migrating across the land. Their strong bodies, agility, and ability to recover from wounds allowed them to endure harsh environments. However, civilization is not explained by physical strength alone. What they revered, where they gathered, and what they protected together among different groups created their history.
At the common center was their faith in the Loa. Public samples of the Chronicle explain the relationship where early trolls called the Wild Gods 'Loa' and worshipped them as deities. Even if every group did not live the same life, faith became the language that connected scattered communities. The forest was a place to obtain food, but simultaneously a world where they encountered beings greater than visible power.
2. The Name Left on the Mountain, Zandalar
The trolls gathered on peaks and plateaus close to the beings they worshipped. The name Zandalar was attached to those mountains and lands, and the powerful tribe that occupied the highest region connected that height to divinity. The site where small shrines gathered grew over time into the temple city of Zuldazar.

A city built on high ground was not merely an observation post. It was a structure that showed where the community placed its center. The power to leave faith in stone, to manifest authority in space, and to make multiple generations return to the same place. When looking at the golden city of the future, there is a relationship accumulated over such a long time beneath its beauty.
If one understands Zandalar as a single nation where all trolls always completely obeyed one king, one misses the subsequent division. Various groups had their own lives and interests. Moving together when a crisis struck and maintaining the same political order after the crisis ended are different issues. This difference connects the history before and after the war.
3. The Shadow Left by Tyr's Last Stand
The fact that the age of trolls had begun did not mean all legacies of the Old Gods had vanished. In Part 6, we saw the sacrifice of Tyr. At the other end of that ancient battle was a C'Thraxxi named Kith'ix. Public Chronicle search snippets connect that he barely survived the clash with Tyr and fled, severely wounded.

Kith'ix retreated toward the Zandalar mountains and fell into a long slumber. This is the link that connects two different stories into the same history. The Guardian's sacrifice opened a path for refugees, but that sacrifice could not completely eliminate every threat within the world. An enemy that seemed to have vanished in one era remained beneath the land, unknown to the people of the next.
C'Thraxxi and Aqir are not the same race. Kith'ix is a general of the Old Gods, and the Aqir are the insectoid forces he moves through mental contact. One must distinguish between the being commanding in war and the forces moving under that command to understand the process by which the Aqir later split into various regions.
The public materials confirmed this time do not reconstruct every person and sequence of the ritual that awakened Kith'ix. That part remains as an item for further investigation. The confirmed connection is that the sleeping general reconnected with the power of the Aqir, and the troll civilization entered a new war.
4. An Empire Grown Beneath the Earth
The threat of the Aqir was different from hunting a few monsters in front of them. Official search snippets reveal the connection between the Aqir empire that grew underground and Kith'ix, who waited for their numbers to swell. While the communities on the surface expanded their lives, another force was building power in unseen places.

When the army finally emerged to the surface, it was not a fight that could be ended by the strength of a single tribe. A greater crisis arose even for groups that had been competing over hunting grounds and territories. It was a moment where the question of whether trolls could continue to live in those forests took precedence over which forest one occupied.
The role of Zandalar lay in binding this common danger. They judged that the threat remained even after pushing back the Aqir, and moved other tribes to track the scattered Aqir. It was a choice not to disperse immediately after victory. This was because the conditions of war did not disappear just because the enemy retreated from one place.
The chronology of this time came with a cost. Each group had to fight outside its own region, and the war expanded the movement of trolls across the continent. They could fight together while politics, faith, and survival pointed in one direction. However, the same enemy does not bind a community together forever. While the war created an alliance, it also created the lands and experiences that would later diverge.
5. The Final Attack in the Northeastern Forest
Public Chronicle snippets leave a flow where trolls chasing Kith'ix entered the northeastern forest, broke through the Aqir's defenses, and approached the general. In the final attack, the entire tribe is shown charging with the resolve of death. This is a passage that cannot be reduced to an event where a single strong hero simply won.

The weight of this story lies in the number of nameless people. The choice where many in a community offer themselves so that the community may persist. The path created by those who will not return to the life they lived, so that the next generation may enjoy an ordinary life. This explanation is an interpretation of the meaning of the confirmed sacrifice, not a newly fabricated story of the lines or personal memories of those who participated in the final attack.
There is also a connection here that requires caution in confirming canon. The official 12.1.5 announcement of 2026 explains Kith'ix as an enemy trapped underground by the Amani long ago. Therefore, it does not pin the ancient victory as the complete annihilation of that entity. One must read the memory of suppressing the enemy in an ancient battle and the state of the seal explained by current official materials separately.
The new raid and campaign of 12.1.5 are not a conclusion already released as of October 8, the date of confirmation. The scheduled date for the official announcement is October 13. This installment only compares the context of the announced seal and does not fabricate the results of the confrontation that has not yet been released. It is a connection that shows why that name becomes important again in the land of the Amani in the future.
6. Three Paths Diverged from the Same Root
After the war, the history of the Aqir did not stop in one region. The group that moved north transformed into the Nerubians, creating the connection of the kingdom of Azjol-Nerub. The Aqir of the southwest made Ahn'Qiraj, where C'Thun's prison is located, their base, and another history connected to the Old God of that place opened.

The Mantid of the south were another branch. Public search snippets show the context where a large settlement called Mantidess was established near the Vale of Eternal Blossoms even before the Aqir empire collapsed. If one places the three branches on a map, one can understand why the races encountered as different enemies in later games are tied together with the legacy of the Old Gods.
However, one cannot always view the three races of later eras as a single army with the same purpose. Societies built in distant regions and events of different eras change them. The Nerubians in the Lich King's war, the Qiraji of Ahn'Qiraj, and the Mantid of Pandaria must each be read in more detail in the main story of their own era. The common ancient origin is not a reason to erase subsequent differences, but a starting point that shows where those differences began.
The trolls also changed together. After the common war loosened, each group took deeper root in its own region and life. The cold of the north, the forests and jungles, and the lands of high temples gave birth to different communities. When meeting the Drakkari, Amani, Gurubashi, and Zandalari of later eras, those names become the names of people who have inherited the same history while making different choices.
7. Life Remaining After Glory
If one reads the ancient war only as a timeline of winners, one cannot see what must be done after the war ends. For those who pushed back the enemy, the life of the next day remains. The work of recovering wounded bodies, protecting the land, and telling the new generation why they fought continues. Places that commemorate victory thus become the memory of society.

The current official introduction to Zuldazar still contains the history of temples for the Loa, royal authority, and various clans and councils. The current introduction to Zul'Aman features the scars of the Amani, their conflict with the Loa, and an uneasy peace with neighbors. These two places show that the ancient victory did not solve all the problems of later eras.
Elsewhere on the same continent, the Mogu were attempting to establish a different order. The next installment continues with what power Lei Shen grasped and began to rule with, and what that rule left for the various races of Pandaria. The land that survived the war becomes a stage for power once again. The history of Azeroth also asks until the end who stands in the empty space left by a retreating enemy.
