Origins and Antiquity: Damaging the World While Trying to Save It
Spoiler Notice: This covers the creation of the Titan-forged, the banishment of the Elemental Lords, the sealing of the Old Gods, and the wound left by Y'Shaarj. This is a novel-style commentary reconstructing official events. It connects the scope confirmed by public samples and official previews of 'Chronicle' and Blizzard's retrospective materials.
In a world where the citadels of the Black Empire rose, guardians from among the stars arrived. What the Pantheon beheld was not merely the horrific dominion on the surface. Beneath it lay the world-soul, not yet awakened. If the power brought down to crush an enemy could also destroy the very existence one sought to save, what should be called victory? The war of Order for Azeroth carried this question from the very beginning.
It seemed like a battle that could be ended simply by the reach of a giant existence covering the sky. However, compared to the small world, the bodies of the Titans were too vast. For those who had to protect the world, their own size and power became a danger. Thus, it was not the hands of the Pantheon that stood at the forefront of the battlefield, but the new guardians they had created.
Chapter 1: The Army Sent Down Instead of Hands
Aggramar, having recognized the potential of Azeroth, worried about the dangers of acting directly. The Pantheon created the Titan-forged instead. These beings, made of stone and metal, were tasked with fighting the encroachment of darkness and cultivating the world with order. This is why one must look at the size and manner in which that power was introduced to the world, rather than just the fact that the Titans possessed immense power.

Among the Titan-forged were the Keepers. These beings, who received a portion of the Pantheon's power, were tasked with caring for Azeroth. Tyr was a warrior who inherited the strength and courage of Aggramar. Let us not conflate the Keepers with the Titans of the Pantheon here. A Keeper is an existence that carries out tasks within the world, and their role and scale differ from the Pantheon that granted them power.
This distinction is also important for later stories. The failure or corruption of a Keeper of Ulduar does not mean that the entire Pantheon acted in the same way at the same moment. The delegated power was entrusted to beings with specific choices and responsibilities. The moment a grand plan for the world reaches the surface, that plan turns into actual combat, care, and a history that can fail.
Chapter 2: The Reason the Elements Could Not Be Eradicated
The path to collapsing the Black Empire also involved battles with the Elemental Lords. Breaking their power was different from completely erasing their existence from the world. The elements were beings that belonged to Azeroth. One could not say they had saved the world even after erasing the earth, water, fire, and wind.

The official public preview of 'Chronicle' explains that Ra and Helya banished the Elemental Lords and almost all their minions to a prison in another dimension. The Elemental Plane is not the same as an empty space where nature simply vanished. It was a choice to contain the power and separate it from the surface of the world. Even in the history that follows, the voices of the elements are not completely silenced. Sealing is not another name for termination, but a new condition for dealing with an existence.
Such a choice changes the nature of the threat. Just because the fire in front of one's eyes is extinguished does not mean the Firelord is gone forever. Depending on which dimensional gate opens and who calls upon that power, the wars of later generations can begin again. This is why a measure from ancient history returns as the background for later regions and raids. The history of Azeroth does not move forward only by forgetting enemies that were once cleared away.
Chapter 3: The Enemy Remaining at the Heart of the Temple
The Titan-forged marched toward the strongholds of the Black Empire. The battle against the Faceless Ones did not end easily. Even after piercing through the cities and reaching Y'Shaarj, there was a difference between the power the Keepers expected and the power they actually encountered. The threat of the greatest Old God was not resolved merely by the victory of conquering the outside of the temple.

In this scene, the war returns to the initial problem. Direct intervention by the massive Titans is dangerous, but there are enemies that the army sent down instead cannot handle. One must conserve power to protect the world, but while conserving power, the intrusion to reach the heart of the world continues. One safe choice did not solve all problems at once.
Finally, Aman'Thul tore Y'Shaarj from Azeroth. The body of the Old God was shattered, and fragments fell back to the earth. However, what remained in the removed spot was not peaceful soil. The power to pull out roots that had burrowed deep for so long damaged the very world to which it had clung. The moment the enemy vanished, the wound of the existence one sought to save was revealed.
Chapter 4: Life Flowing in the Place of Victory
A massive rift remained in the crust of Azeroth. Volatile arcane energy flowed from there and ravaged the world. The Keepers knew that if they left this alone, Azeroth would be in danger. The war could not be ended by the mere event of destroying the enemy's body. Now, they had to deal with the destruction left by their own victory.

This is the core of understanding the sealing of the Old Gods. Instead of tearing out the remaining Old Gods by the roots in the same way, they chose the method of confining the evil in the places that remained. If one explains it simply as wanting to keep the enemy alive, the wound of the world is erased. The target that could not be killed without restriction was deeply connected to the world that had to be protected.
The choice of sealing left a burden for the future. The surviving threat could exert influence again in later generations. However, if immediate total destruction could cause Azeroth itself to die, accepting an incomplete solution could be a method of protection. The grandeur of this story does not lie only in scenes of using overwhelming power. It also lies in the moments of realizing the limits of that power and choosing a different path.
Chapter 5: What the Dead Existence Left Behind
Y'Shaarj did not remain in a whole body, but the fallen debris left an evil aura on the land. That influence connects to the history of Pandaria later on. The Sha are beings that appear when the residual essence of an Old God connects with negative emotions. In later wars, the background where hatred and fear do not remain in the minds of simple people but manifest as actual threats has this long past.

Here, the destruction of the body, the sealing of the debris, and the influence of the essence are each different layers. The statement that Y'Shaarj died and the claim that nothing remained for later generations are not the same. Even after the greatest enemy vanished, the world had to live with the traces that the enemy left behind. Victory in history does not completely erase the conflicts of later eras.
When reading about the balance and moderation of the Pandaren, this past looks different if recalled together. In later traditions, the teaching of emotional balance appears. That stance is not merely a character trait decorating a peaceful people. It is connected to the way people and society live in a land where negative emotions are actually linked to danger. The formation of that culture and specific figures are covered deeply in the main story of that era.
Chapter 6: The Surveillance Left by Order
Even after collapsing the Black Empire, the work of caring for the world continued. The history of the Titan-forged and the Keepers does not end here. After their victory, long-term management and surveillance were required. The conquered surface became land where future life would live, and the confined threat became an object that had to be watched continuously.

Loken of later generations, confirmed in official Keeper retrospectives, falls to corruption due to the influence of Yogg-Saron. The choices of the other Keepers he opposes and the sacrifice of Tyr are the focus of the next part. The fact that the current victory could fail later does not mean this war was meaningless. It means that another story begins regarding how one protects the time gained by that victory, and who made what choices within it.
Azeroth had now entered a path of moving away from the era where elements and Old Gods vied for the surface. However, the evil in the depths and the wounds of the world had not vanished. Where new forests and cities would grow, those traces were there first. The reader looking at the beautiful map will also read about what is trapped beneath it, and who created and guarded that map.
Chapter 7: To the Next Guardians
Titan-forged, Keeper, Elemental Plane, Arcane, and Sha are names that will be met again in various eras. Just because words are repeated does not mean all events happened in the same era. First, there was a war to save the world, and within the conditions left by that war, later races and kingdoms grew.

Part 2 connects the diverging paths of the Pantheon and Sargeras, and Part 3 connects the rise of the elements and the Black Empire. One can return to previous stories in the table of contents below. Now, in the next part, we follow how the beings created to protect the world came to turn their backs on each other. The burning temple had collapsed, but the Keepers tasked with surveillance still remained within the world.
