Michael De Santa heads to the Galileo Observatory in northern Los Santos after receiving a call from FIB agent Dave Norton. Dave interrogates Michael about his involvement in the Vangelis jewelry store heist. Michael admits to it and confesses about Trevor Philips' sudden visit. Dave warns that if Michael's crimes are exposed to the world, his own past illegal dealings and undercover operations will all be at risk of discovery.

Dave decides to use Michael to protect his career. He shows a photo of a man named Ferdinand Kerimov, explaining that he holds information that could blow Dave and his superiors away. While the IAA claims Kerimov is dead, the FIB suspects he is being held and interrogated somewhere. Dave claims they must infiltrate the heavily guarded IAA morgue to verify the body, then suddenly strikes Michael in the head with a blunt object, knocking him unconscious.

When Michael regains consciousness, he is lying on a coroner's table inside a body bag. Two coroners open the bag and discuss guesses about Michael's cause of death. Seizing an opportunity, Michael suddenly sits up, strangles one of the coroners into unconsciousness, and the other, startled, flees the room to call for help. Michael finds his clothes discarded in a nearby trash bag, puts them on, and assesses the situation.

At that moment, an armed IAA agent enters the morgue looking for Michael. Michael hides behind cover, sneaks up behind the agent, and strikes him to subdue him. Checking the two bodies in the room, Michael realizes they are both female and that Kerimov is not there. He immediately calls Dave to report the situation, and Dave replies that if he reaches the top floor, he will open a path for him to escape.

Having seized the unconscious agent's pistol, Michael engages in a fierce shootout with numerous IAA agents blocking his path as he climbs the stairs. During the move, a text message arrives from Dave stating that his confiscated weapons are in a trash bag in the top-floor evidence room. Reaching the top floor, Michael recovers his weapons to bolster his firepower, kills the remaining agents, breaks a window, and jumps into a dumpster below the building.

Landing safely in the dumpster, Michael avoids the hail of bullets and quickly hides to escape the scene. Successfully evading the massive police pursuit, he calls Franklin Clinton, his accomplice from the jewelry store job, and suggests meeting at the oil fields in El Burro Heights. Later, he contacts Dave again, mentions the number of agents he killed, and questions the true purpose of the mission. Dave explains that the FIB and IAA are competing to secure a budget by finding a massive target hidden somewhere in the city.

Meeting Franklin at the oil fields, Michael warns him to leave the city immediately. Michael confesses that after the wrong person died in the past, he made a private deal with a corrupt agent to fake his death and live under a new identity, but that his retirement was reversed, causing problems to entangle him again. He explains that he is no angel but better than Trevor, describing his position of walking a tightrope between the FIB and other forces. This was not a retirement through an official witness protection program, but a secret deal between Dave and Michael. Despite the warning that it is a path equivalent to death, Franklin volunteers to help Michael, and Michael sends him away, promising a big score in the future.

Michael meets Dave Norton, his superior Steve Haines, and Andreas Sanchez in the plaza between the FIB and IAA buildings in downtown Los Santos. As soon as Steve sees Michael, he shows blatant hostility and threatens to kill him. Michael forces a respectful attitude and provides information that the IAA is holding Ferdinand Kerimov inside their building. The agents conclude that they must extract Kerimov before he opens his mouth and ruins their careers.

Dave and Michael head to the Covington warehouse located in El Burro Heights. In the car, Dave instructs Michael to call Franklin Clinton to request sniper support, threatening to send agents to his aunt's house if he does not comply. Dave also reveals that he has already recruited Trevor Philips to pilot the helicopter. Michael strongly objects, saying it would be dangerous if Trevor found out he was working with the agent who killed Brad in the past, but Dave pushes ahead with the plan.

Arriving at the warehouse, Michael sends Dave away first and meets Franklin and Trevor, who were waiting inside. Trevor expresses displeasure, mocking the quasi-father-son relationship between Michael and Franklin. Michael formally introduces the two and divides the operational roles. The plan is for Trevor to pilot the helicopter and for Franklin to position himself on the rooftop across from the IAA building to provide sniper cover. Trevor asks if they will also rescue their past associate Brad, but Michael avoids answering.

While Franklin moves to his sniper position, Michael changes into tactical gear for rappelling. Boarding the helicopter piloted by Trevor, Michael makes excuses while heading to the IAA building, saying the reason he had to leave his past associates was because of his family. However, Trevor remains furious, stating that Michael's selfish choices created the current situation. As the helicopter hovers near the roof of the IAA building, Michael begins to rappel down the exterior wall of the building.

Descending outside a 36th-floor window, Michael witnesses a female agent beating and interrogating Kerimov with a flashlight inside. Kerimov was not the mastermind of a grand conspiracy but a simple appliance installation technician, yet the agents were forcing a false confession out of him. Michael breaks the window and bursts in to grab Kerimov. The moment the IAA agents inside point their guns at Michael, Franklin, waiting on the opposite roof, provides cover by accurately sniping the agents.

Holding onto Kerimov, Michael throws himself out the window and hangs onto the helicopter. Just as they try to escape, three armed FIB helicopters appear and begin a fierce pursuit of Trevor's helicopter. Michael, hanging in the air, and Franklin on the roof launch a coordinated attack to shoot down the pursuing helicopters one by one. Kerimov screams in extreme terror, saying he feels like he will fall from the helicopter even though he is wearing a seatbelt.

Trevor uses his superior piloting skills to shake off the remaining threats and returns safely to the Covington warehouse. Upon reaching the ground, Kerimov thanks Michael for saving his life, but the waiting FIB agents put a bag over his head and roughly shove him into a construction site van. After the mission, Trevor mocks Michael for becoming the FIB's dog and asks if he intends to raise Franklin as an immature adult. Trevor evaluates Franklin as a decent young man before flying off in the helicopter.

Steve Haines calls Michael and Trevor to a warehouse in Banning. At the entrance of the warehouse, they briefly witness Devin Weston, CEO of the Merryweather security firm, leaving the scene. Inside the warehouse, Ferdinand Kerimov, whom Steve kidnapped from the IAA building, is tied to a chair. Steve claims that Kerimov is an Azerbaijani spy and is hiding important information. Kerimov pleads that he is just an appliance installation technician unrelated to illegal activities, but Steve creates an oppressive atmosphere by preparing an EKG monitor and various torture tools.

Steve instructs Trevor to stay in the interrogation room and find out the location of the target from Kerimov. Following Steve's orders, Trevor begins to inflict physical violence on Kerimov. Crushed by extreme fear and pain, Kerimov reveals information that the person the FIB is looking for lives in Rockford Hills. Michael and Dave Norton head to Rockford Hills to assassinate the target based on this information. During the trip, Michael expresses strong concern about the situation where Trevor has become deeply involved in their secrets.

Michael and Dave arrive at the mansion in Rockford Hills, but it is not the hideout of the assassination target, but the set of a reality television show. As it is revealed that Steve gave instructions based on incorrect information, Dave calls Steve to report the situation and demands a new address. Consequently, Trevor, left in the warehouse, is forced to commit even harsher acts against Kerimov. Trevor repeatedly performs the cruel process of checking Kerimov's heart rate and injecting adrenaline whenever he suffers a heart attack to forcibly revive his consciousness.

In unbearable pain, Kerimov mentions the name Tahir Javan and confesses that he lives in a beachside mansion in Chumash. Michael and Dave immediately move to Chumash and set up a surveillance spot across from the mansion. During surveillance, Dave confesses to Michael that he has been monitoring Trevor by impersonating the deceased Brad Snider and exchanging letters with him. A party was being held at the mansion, and Michael requests more specific physical descriptions to identify the target.

Following Michael's request, additional violence continues at the warehouse. Kerimov reveals specific characteristics one by one: Javan is middle-aged, has a scruffy beard, is a chain-smoker, and is left-handed. Observing the people at the party through the sniper scope, Michael discovers a person who matches all the physical conditions described by Kerimov smoking alone and kills him.

Once the assassination is successfully completed, Steve orders Trevor to eliminate Kerimov, who is no longer of any use, and leaves the warehouse. However, Trevor ignores Steve's instructions and unties Kerimov. He puts the injured Kerimov in his car and heads to Los Santos International Airport. During the trip, Kerimov appeals that he wants to return to his family, but Trevor coldly advises that if he has become a target of a state agency, he must leave the country immediately to survive.

Arriving at the airport, Trevor drops off Kerimov and criticizes how inefficient and hypocritical torture is as a method for obtaining information. He notes that even though Kerimov was willing to say everything he knew from the beginning, the state agency forced unnecessary violence in the name of established procedure. Trevor lets the technician who was almost unjustly sacrificed go, pointing out the contradiction of the blind violence led by the FIB.

Michael tries to relax by watching an old movie in the living room of his Rockford Hills home, but the peace is soon broken by the appearance of his wife, Amanda. Amanda fiercely blames Michael for ruining their family life even more since Trevor reappeared. As their argument intensifies, Amanda's yoga instructor, Fabien LaRouche, enters the garden and suggests yoga. Despite Amanda's dissuasion, Michael decides to join the yoga class, thinking he might smooth over the conflict.

Taking yoga poses in the garden according to Fabien's instructions, Michael struggles with his stiff body but forces himself to follow the movements. However, as the class progresses, Fabien begins to demand explicit and embarrassing poses from Amanda. Eventually, when Fabien gets close behind Amanda and attempts inappropriate physical contact, Michael, considering this a sexual advance, cannot contain his anger and rushes toward Fabien.

However, Fabien easily dodges Michael's attack, and Michael, losing his balance, crashes into the swimming pool. Looking down at Michael struggling in the water, Amanda declares with a look of complete disgust that she is leaving the house and will never return. Overwhelmed by humiliation and anger, Michael heads to his son Jimmy's room in his wet clothes. Hoping to restore his relationship with his family, he forcibly drags Jimmy, who is immersed in a game, out for an outing.

Michael and Jimmy drive to the Burger Shot that Jimmy wants. Throughout the trip, the two hurl sharp accusations at each other. Jimmy lashes out that Michael is a hypocrite and a monster, and Michael tries to express his affection for his son in a clumsy way, but the conversation only stays on the surface. Arriving at Burger Shot, Jimmy gets out of the car, buys a drink mixed with marijuana and an unidentified drug, and gets back into the passenger seat.

On the way home, Jimmy hands Michael the drink he bought. Michael, who drinks it without any suspicion, soon feels his vision blur and experiences extreme dizziness, pulling the car over to the side of the road. Jimmy shamelessly says that he took money from Michael's bank account and drugged him to protect him from ruining himself. Jimmy pushes Michael, who cannot steady his body, out of the car and drives away.

Abandoned on the street, Michael falls into a serious state of hallucination as the drug takes effect. He sees a bizarre vision of being surrounded by a group of monkeys in an alleyway, and soon experiences a vivid hallucination of being abducted by an alien spacecraft. Thrown out of the spacecraft, Michael falls endlessly over Los Santos, suffering from auditory hallucinations of his family and Dave Norton lingering in his ears.

Waking up from the hallucination, Michael finds himself collapsed on the ground in a park near his home, wearing only his underwear. As soon as he wakes up, he retches and returns to the mansion with a staggering gait. However, there was no one in the empty house, and only a single letter left by Amanda lay alone on the kitchen table.

The letter contained Amanda's despair over Michael's violent behavior, the fact that he drove while under the influence of drugs with Jimmy in the car, and his criminal activities that constantly put the family in danger. She informed him of their separation, ending with a cold request that she would consult with a lawyer and for him to please not die. Michael, overwhelmed by anger and frustration, tears up the letter. He sits alone on the front steps of the empty mansion, painfully realizing that his past and uncontrollable anger ultimately caused his entire family to leave.
