  1. Spoiler Notice: This is a 20-part detailed series explaining the GTA V single-player campaign from the introduction to the three endings. This is a commentary rewritten based on in-game events and is not an official novel or script. Simultaneous missions and choice-based events may vary in chronological order. The heist approaches and endings A, B, and C are mutually exclusive alternatives, not consecutive events. Illustrations are AI scene reconstructions referencing game characters and locations.
  2. When they return safely to the Rockford Hills mansion, Martin Madrazo is already waiting for them. Madrazo demands an explanation for Michael and Franklin's actions and informs them that they must pay 2.5 million dollars in reconstruction costs for destroying the home of his mistress, Natalia. This incident, which creates a debt to a massive criminal organization, becomes the decisive moment for Michael to end his nine-year retirement and return to the world of crime to secure the large sum of money.
  3. After completing the mission, Michael calls Lester to report the situation. Lester replies that he didn't need to watch the news, as he had already confirmed the assassination was a success through the plummeting stock market indicators. Shortly after, Ricky Lukens, who lost his job, calls Michael. Ricky reveals that he realized Michael installed the bomb that killed Norris and suggests that Michael hire him as a hacker for future criminal jobs. Through this incident, Michael fully regains his old instincts and begins full-scale preparations for the jewelry store heist.
  4. The remaining team members had to be chosen carefully based on hiring costs and proficiency. Hiring a highly skilled hacker would provide ample time to crack the safe but required a larger cut, while a cheaper hacker posed a higher risk due to the short time to disable the alarm. The driver and gunmen also directly affected the success or failure of the heist, such as the performance of the getaway motorcycles or dropping jewelry at the scene, depending on their skills. Michael weighs each person's abilities and labor costs to assemble the optimal team.
  5. As all equipment and weapons are gathered at the clothing factory, Lester makes final checks on the team's deployment and escape routes. Michael feels a strange mix of tension and anticipation for the first large-scale heist he has commanded since the failure in North Yankton nine years ago. To clear his debt to Martin Madrazo and build a foundation for a new life, Michael, Franklin, and the hired team members wait only for the order to begin the operation against the Vangelico jewelry store.

  1. Marriage Counseling · The House That Was Wrongly Destroyed

Michael De Santa, attempting to live a peaceful daily life in his Rockford Hills mansion, looks for his wife, Amanda, inside the house. Stepping outside to smoke, he finds Amanda's tennis racket next to that of her coach, Kyle Chavis, and becomes suspicious. Returning inside, Michael encounters Amanda blocking the bedroom door in nothing but a towel. Despite her protests, Michael bursts into the bedroom and finds Kyle hiding in his underwear.

A panicked Kyle stumbles through excuses before jumping out of the bedroom window to flee. Franklin Clinton, who had just arrived at Michael's mansion, witnesses the scene, and a furious Michael begins to chase Kyle with Franklin. Amanda begs them not to kill the coach as she closes the front door, but Michael ignores her. The two climb into an interior decorator's pickup truck parked nearby and pursue Kyle.

A chase ensues through the complex city streets, but they eventually lose sight of Kyle's vehicle. However, Michael remembers Kyle bragging about living in a luxury residential area in Vinewood Hills. Heading to Vinewood Hills, the two soon find Kyle's vehicle abandoned near a cliff. Kyle is standing on the balcony of a luxury mansion located above the vehicle, looking down at Michael in terror.

Michael instructs Franklin to unhook the pickup truck's winch cable and tie it securely to the deck supports of the mansion. While Franklin connects the cable, Michael vents his rage at Kyle on the balcony, telling him he will pay the price for ruining his marriage. Once the cable is connected, the two get back into the truck and floor the accelerator, forcibly pulling the supports. With a deafening roar, the entire deck collapses, and a portion of the mansion falls down the cliff.

While leaving the scene, leaving Kyle trapped in the rubble, Michael's phone rings. Kyle, on the other end, delivers the shocking news that the house they just destroyed was not his. Shortly after, a woman named Natalia Zverovna takes the phone and reveals she is the lover of Martin Madrazo, the head of a Mexican drug cartel, and warns Michael of his death. Soon after, armed operatives sent by Madrazo pursue them, and Michael and Franklin eliminate them after a shootout.

1. Friend Request · Lester and Lifeinvader

Burdened with a massive 2.5 million dollar debt, Michael contacts his former partner and criminal mastermind, Lester Crest. Visiting Lester's house, Michael explains his situation and the need to commit crimes again. Lester reveals that he already knew about the secret deal Michael made with Dave Norton of the FIB when he hid his past to retire. Lester demands that Michael assassinate Jay Norris, the CEO of the IT company Lifeinvader, whom he personally loathes, as a condition for helping Michael return.

Lester's plan was not a simple murder, but a calculated move to manipulate the stock market using the tech company's new product launch event. To infiltrate the Lifeinvader headquarters, Michael stops by a Suburban store in Vinewood to change into casual clothing that makes him look like a young IT worker. Afterward, Michael moves to the back entrance of the Lifeinvader headquarters, waiting for an opportunity to get inside.

Ricky Lukens, an employee who came outside to smoke, speaks to Michael. Seeing Michael's attire, Ricky mistakes him for a new temporary IT hire. Guided by Ricky, Michael naturally passes through the security area and moves to his desk. Ricky's computer is paralyzed by numerous pop-up ads and viruses due to accessing inappropriate websites during work. Michael gains Ricky's trust by running an antivirus program to remove the pop-ups.

While Ricky is away from his desk, Michael sneaks into the demonstration room. There, the prototype phone for Lifeinvader that Jay Norris is about to announce is sitting on a table. Michael quickly installs a small explosive device inside the phone and leaves the headquarters building without raising any suspicion. Returning to the Rockford Hills mansion, Michael has a light argument with his daughter, Tracey, over the remote control before fixing the channel to watch the live TV broadcast in the living room.

On the TV screen, Jay Norris is proudly introducing Lifeinvader's new prototype phone in front of a massive crowd. The moment Norris takes the phone out of his pocket and holds it up, Michael calls the pre-entered number. As the phone rings on stage, Norris smiles and brings the device to his ear. At that moment, the explosive device detonates, killing Norris instantly, and the presentation hall turns into chaos in an instant.

After completing the mission, Michael calls Lester to report the situation. Lester replies that he didn't need to watch the news, as he had already confirmed the assassination was a success through the plummeting stock market indicators. Shortly after, Ricky Lukens, who lost his job, calls Michael. 1. Casing the Jewel Store · Security Through the Lens

With the Lifeinvader job successfully completed, Michael and Lester discuss the full-scale heist plan at the Darnell Bros. clothing factory in La Mesa. Lester suggests robbing a large bank like the Union Depository, but Michael insists on a smaller, guaranteed target, prioritizing the repayment of his debt to Madrazo. Consequently, Lester identifies the Vangelico jewelry store, located on Portola Drive, a luxury shopping street in Los Santos, as the target.

The two travel to the site to check the jewelry store's security status. In the car, Lester hands Michael special glasses equipped with a small camera and a wireless transmitter, instructing him to conduct internal reconnaissance. Arriving in front of the jewelry store, Michael enters the store disguised as an ordinary customer. Using the glasses' camera, he meticulously records the security keypad, the locations of surveillance cameras, and the structure of the ventilation shafts.

Michael approaches the clerk and naturally asks questions about the value and storage methods of the displayed jewelry. The clerk replies that all precious metals are stored in the safe after business hours, providing Michael with the crucial information that they must carry out the heist during the day while the store is open. After finishing the internal investigation, Michael leaves the store and heads to a building under construction near the jewelry store, following Lester's instructions.

Climbing to the roof of the building, Michael finds the external ventilation facility connected to the Vangelico jewelry store and takes pictures. This was essential information if they were to use the tactic of injecting gas to neutralize the personnel inside. Having finished the reconnaissance, the two return to the clothing factory and stand in front of a whiteboard. Based on the collected information, Lester presents the personnel needed for the heist and two contrasting approaches.

The first method Lester proposes is a forceful approach, storming in with firearms to control the crowd, while the second is a stealthy approach, spraying sleeping gas through the roof vents to knock out the people inside the store. Regardless of the method chosen, they needed a hacker to disable the security system, gunmen to control the scene or grab the jewelry, and a driver to handle the escape. Michael informs Lester that he will include Franklin as a core member, and although Lester is reluctant, calling him an unproven beginner, he eventually accepts.

  1. Preparation Missions · Pest Control Van or Police Carbines

Once the approach for the jewelry store heist is decided, Michael begins specific preparation work accordingly. Since the two approaches required different equipment and preparation processes, Michael had to act according to the single plan he chose. If he chose the stealthy approach using the ventilation shafts, Michael had to secure BZ gas to knock out the people inside the jewelry store and a pest control company vehicle to disguise it.

The first task for the stealthy approach was to steal a Bugstars pest control van located at the Los Santos port. Michael had to infiltrate the warehouse to steal the van quietly, avoiding the eyes of the employees, or if discovered, shake off the pursuing police and bring the vehicle to the clothing factory. This was followed by a job to track a pharmaceutical company's cargo van heading to the airport and steal BZ gas grenades. During the process of shooting the back door of the moving van to drop the cargo or stealing the vehicle itself, a police wanted level was triggered, and Michael had to successfully evade them.

On the other hand, if the forceful approach of breaking through the front was chosen, Michael needed powerful firepower to suppress the scene instantly. Lester warns that purchasing weapons from a gun shop carries a high risk of the serial numbers being traced, and instructs Michael to raid a Los Santos Police tactical team vehicle to steal carbine rifles. Michael identifies the route of the police tactical vehicle passing through Palomino Avenue and carries out a surprise attack.

A fierce shootout with the heavily armed police tactical team was an unavoidable process. After neutralizing all the tactical agents, Michael breaks through the encirclement of police reinforcements and steals the truck loaded with carbine rifles. Successfully shaking off the persistent police pursuit, Michael safely delivers the vehicle loaded with weapons to Lester's clothing factory, completing all physical preparations for the forceful approach.

This preparation process served as an opportunity for Michael to go beyond simple theft and awaken his meticulous criminal instincts from his prime. Franklin also prepares to grow into a professional criminal, watching Lester's thorough planning and Michael's seasoned execution, which are on a different level from the impromptu and reckless neighborhood crimes he used to commit with Lamar.
