Spoiler Notice: This is a 20-part detailed serial that explains the GTA V single-player experience from the introduction to the three possible endings. This is a commentary rewritten based on in-game events and is not an official novel or script. Missions and optional events that occur simultaneously may vary in chronological order. The approaches to heists and the endings A, B, and C are mutually exclusive alternatives and not events that happen sequentially in a single playthrough. In Ludendorff, North Yankton, in 2004, Michael Townley, Trevor Philips, and Brad Snider rob a cash depository guarded by armed security. Amidst a blizzard, Trevor plants explosives to destroy the vault door, and the crew controls the hostages while stuffing cash into bags. In the process, a hidden guard identifies Michael and takes him hostage, leading to a standoff. Michael attempts to persuade the guard, but Trevor shoots the guard in the head without hesitation to rescue Michael.

After exiting the building, the three men face off against local police forces surrounding the scene. They engage in a fierce shootout while heading toward a pre-arranged getaway vehicle, but an unexpected situation occurs when their driver is shot in the head by police and dies instantly. Eventually, Michael takes the driver's seat, slams on the accelerator, and rams through the police cars blocking their path, pushing them off the road before speeding down the snow-covered route.

To avoid police barricades, Michael turns onto a side road and speeds toward a railroad crossing. However, he fails to clear the oncoming train completely, and the rear of the truck collides with it, causing the vehicle to lose control and crash into the snow. The three decide to abandon the wrecked vehicle and travel on foot to the extraction point where a helicopter is waiting, heading toward a nearby farm.

While entering the farm and scouting the surroundings, a bullet from an ambushed FIB sniper strikes Brad, knocking him down. The moment Michael approaches to check on the fallen Brad, he is also shot by the sniper and collapses into the snow. Bleeding, Michael shouts at Trevor to leave them behind and run alone. Trevor, refusing to abandon his partners, resists the police forces violently, but unable to overcome the numerical disadvantage, he takes a passing woman hostage as a human shield.

Threatening the hostage to keep the police at bay, Trevor eventually pushes the woman away and flees alone across the fog-covered fields. Time passes, and Michael Townley's funeral is held in a snowy cemetery. As attendees, including his wife Amanda, watch the coffin being buried in sorrow, Michael himself—who was thought to be dead—stands behind a tree on the outskirts of the cemetery, quietly observing his own funeral.

In 2013, Los Santos, Franklin Clinton works as a repo man at Premium Deluxe Motorsport, a dealership run by the Armenian Simeon Yetarian. While walking along Del Perro Beach with his colleague and long-time friend Lamar Davis, he happens to run into Michael De Santa, who is sitting on a bench. Franklin asks Michael for the location of a specific beach house, and Michael kindly points the way to the house with the yellow stairs.

Upon arriving at the target house, Franklin reprimands Lamar for his recklessness in trying to approach the house without even verifying the location of the sports car they are meant to repossess. Following Simeon's instructions, the two steal one sports car each and race toward downtown Los Santos. Lamar challenges Franklin to a bet on who can reach the dealership first, and the two weave through the complex city traffic in a dangerous race.

When they reach a parking lot near the Union Depository, police cars alerted to the theft quickly close in. Lamar speeds away toward the dealership, leaving Franklin behind to deal with the intense police pursuit. He manages to escape the police's line of sight by navigating through alleys and underpasses, successfully bringing the stolen vehicle to Premium Deluxe Motorsport.

Returning to the dealership, Franklin witnesses his employer, Simeon, arguing with a young customer named Jimmy De Santa over a car sale. While Simeon's business appears to be a legitimate car dealership on the surface, it is actually a fraudulent structure that sells cars to those without repayment capacity using high-interest loans, only to forcibly repossess them later. Franklin feels skeptical of this unjust work environment but silently follows orders.

After finishing his shift, Franklin heads to his home in the Strawberry district with Lamar. There, Franklin feels the daily friction of living with his aunt Denise and the absence of his former girlfriend Tanisha, who has distanced herself while criticizing his inability to escape street life. The rough demeanor of Chop, the guard dog Lamar brings along, represents the harsh reality of the streets of South Los Santos, and Franklin realizes his own limitations within the fraudulent schemes of Simeon, which are masked by the facade of a legitimate job.

Simeon calls Franklin into his office to flatter him by naming him Employee of the Month. Lamar enters the office at this moment and expresses his jealousy and dissatisfaction over Franklin receiving the award. Simeon gives the two a new mission to repossess a motorcycle from Esteban Jimenez, who lives in the Vespucci Beach area. Franklin warns of the danger, pointing out that Jimenez is a member of the notorious Vagos gang, but Simeon dismisses his concerns.

Arriving in the Vagos territory on Magellan Avenue, Franklin expresses repeated concern about entering the heart of the gang's turf. Lamar, however, is unbothered and begins searching the garages where the motorcycle might be hidden. As tension rises with every garage door opened, the discovery of body armor in one of the garages reveals that their repossession job is not a simple errand.

Even after searching all three garages, the target motorcycle is nowhere to be found. At that moment, armed Vagos members surround the alley and ambush the two. Lamar pulls out a submachine gun first, kills one of the members, and tosses a pistol to Franklin, sparking a full-blown shootout. Unlike previous repossession jobs, this is a life-or-death engagement where the two move between covers to take down the Vagos members one by one.

Breaking through the intense shootout, the two discover someone riding the target motorcycle and fleeing. Franklin immediately hijacks a vehicle and pursues the fleeing motorcycle relentlessly. After a chase through the streets, Franklin subdues the gang member on the bike and finally succeeds in repossessing the vehicle.

Franklin meets up with Lamar at a car wash in Strawberry, but Lamar insists on keeping the motorcycle for himself instead of returning it to Simeon. Franklin strongly objects, stating that stealing from a dead man is crossing the line, but Lamar ignores his warnings and disappears on the motorcycle. Ultimately, Franklin is left in a position where he must lie to Simeon about not finding the bike, facing the contradictory reality that even by being loyal to a fraudulent dealership, he cannot escape the violence and disorder of the streets.

4. Complications · The Backseat of Jimmy's Car

Simeon orders Franklin to repossess a yellow SUV purchased by Jimmy De Santa. The stated reason is that Jimmy is behind on his payments, but the real motive is to repossess the vehicle before it gets damaged to secure a profit. Franklin heads to Rockford Hills, the wealthy neighborhood where Jimmy lives. After knocking out the gardener working in the mansion's yard, Franklin climbs onto his truck and sneaks into the house through an open bathroom window.

Inside the mansion, Franklin witnesses the serious discord within the De Santa family. Daughter Tracey and son Jimmy are making noise in their respective rooms, and wife Amanda is having an inappropriate conversation with a tennis coach. Avoiding the family's eyes, Franklin carefully moves to the first-floor garage, starts the target SUV, and exits the mansion.

As Franklin drives toward the city, Michael, who had been hiding in the backseat under a blanket, suddenly rises and points a gun at Franklin's head. Michael had been watching the process of his son's car being stolen. Franklin tries to explain the situation, but Michael immediately sees through the fact that Franklin is being used in a predatory credit scam by a corrupt dealer.

Michael orders Franklin to continue driving to the destination, Premium Deluxe Motorsport. As they approach the dealership, Michael threatens Franklin, ordering him to drive the car through the store's glass window. Franklin has no choice but to follow Michael's instructions to save his life, and the SUV crashes into the store with a roar, smashing the displayed vehicles and fixtures.

As Michael gets out of the car in the chaotic store, an enraged Simeon approaches to confront him. Michael hands Franklin some money as a tip and tells him to leave the scene before brutally assaulting Simeon. Unlike his appearance as an ordinary, wealthy father with no criminal record, Michael's violence is highly skilled and threatening. He pins Simeon to the floor and gives him a stern warning never to touch his family again.

In the aftermath of this incident, Franklin and Lamar are immediately fired from Simeon's dealership. Although Franklin has lost a stable source of income, he paradoxically finds an opportunity to escape Simeon's vicious fraudulent structure. Michael also begins to reveal the violent nature he had suppressed for a long time, and cracks begin to form in his peaceful retirement life. This wrong encounter, which began in the Rockford Hills mansion, becomes the signal that leads both men into an irreversible world of crime.
