Recommended Game Story: Cyberpunk 2077 Part 15
Chapters in this story
Spoiler Warning: This is a commentary series covering major events, companion stories, branches, and endings of the main game and Phantom Liberty. Each ending is the result of different choices and does not happen all at once. I do not transcribe original dialogue or reenact every scene. Unstated inner thoughts are distinguished as interpretations. AI illustrations are symbolic reconstructions, and V's appearance, gender, and relationships vary depending on the playthrough.
Chapter 1: The Gate to Dogtown

Phantom Liberty is not an epilogue that happens to V sequentially after the main game's ending. It is an expansion story that can be accessed during the main game while searching for a way to survive, via the path related to Pacifica and the Voodoo Boys. The reason I examined the alternative endings of the main game first in this series is for the sake of understanding. It does not mean that the actual V has already experienced those endings before arriving here.
A netrunner named Songbird, or So Mi Song, contacts V through the Relic. She knows V's condition, mentions the possibility of a cure, and asks V to save the crashing presidential plane and President Myers. For V, who has heard uncertain answers for a long time, a voice that knows their problem can feel powerful. The fact that the voice sounds intimate and the fact that it provides sufficient information are still different things.
Dogtown is a district ruled by Kurt Hansen and Barghest. Traces of war, controlled access, and neglected architecture create a different order within the city. Even there, people sell goods, take care of their families, and prepare for tomorrow. One should not paint all residents as part of the same violence just because it is a warlord's land. In places where deals of great power are made, the people with the fewest choices are usually the ordinary people living there.
The opening sequence of rushing to the crash site overlaps V's desperation with a national crisis. A mercenary who was trying to save one person's body ends up being responsible for the President's survival. Although the incident has grown, the promise of help still clings to private fears. Since anyone can understand the desire to live, a proposal that moves someone with that desire is powerful. This expansion asks until the end what that proposal is hiding.
Chapter 2: What is seen while hiding with the President

Rosalind Myers appears as a figure capable of acting directly in a crisis. The process of escaping the collapsed district in cooperation with V and facing the giant Chimera makes the two feel like they are on the same side for a moment. However, the experience of holding a gun together does not erase the power gap. One person has state agencies and recovery plans, while the other has a promise of a cure that has not yet been fulfilled.
The process of So Mi losing control after intervening with the Chimera implies that her ability is not just convenient hacking. Using the power of the Blackwall carries a different danger than finding loopholes in existing systems. While V must survive the machine in front of them, they also get a clue that the person helping them might be crushed by the price of their own power.
In the short time spent hiding with Myers, a person's tone of voice comes before their official title. However, seeing friendliness is not grounds to trust all subsequent instructions. Myers is a powerful figure who represents the state and is connected to the past Militech. It has not yet been confirmed whether her returning safely and So Mi or V becoming free are the same goal.
Choosing not to proceed with the story or giving up on rescuing the President may interrupt the main path of the expansion. This series explains based on following the core story, but does not erase this possibility. Once you reach out, the debts of the past that V does not know about follow. The next person you meet, Solomon Reed, is someone who explains those debts in the language of sincerity and loyalty. How much to trust those words is something V must decide again.
