Spoiler Warning: This is a commentary series covering major events, companion stories, branches, and endings of the main game and Phantom Liberty. Each ending is the result of different choices and does not all happen at once. This series does not transcribe original dialogue or reenact every scene. Unstated inner thoughts are distinguished as interpretations. AI illustrations are symbolic reconstructions, and V's appearance, gender, and relationships vary depending on the playthrough.

Johnny's choice missions bring his relationships with past colleagues into the present. Rogue Amendiares is a figure who survived that era and stands at the center of the Afterlife. The Rogue that Johnny keeps in his memories and the current Rogue are the same, yet different. One person has lived for decades, while the other has not lived through a significant portion of that time. This is why relationships do not return to how they were just because Johnny repeats the charms of the past.

In 'Chippin' In,' Johnny asks V to let him take control of their body. This experience is an opportunity for trust, but also an event that shows how easily boundaries can be ignored. Just because V agreed does not mean that all subsequent actions were granted unlimited permission. This distinction is important even for players who like Johnny. A relationship can only change when a character who has gained favor does not avoid responsibility and acknowledges the other person's discomfort.

The conversation leading to the site of the oil field grave is the moment Johnny's self-mythology faces its most humble place. The gap between the pride that his name shook the city and the traces that were not properly left behind is revealed. Rather than offering unconditional comfort, V can point out his wounds and decide what meaning to give to a second chance. The appeal of this scene lies in the fact that forgiveness is different from saying the other person's mistakes never happened.

The secret raid path is connected to specific choices in this conversation. It is often simplified that the path opens automatically if the relationship score is high, but that explanation is not accurate. This series explains the context of the relationship instead of listing the original dialogue. What matters is not whether you always pleased Johnny, but how you addressed his mistakes and new opportunities at critical moments. Expressions of affection and conditions of trust are not converted into the same numbers.

Chapter 2 · How an Old Colleague Chooses a New Life

In the time spent with Rogue, the limitations of memories are revealed. Even if Johnny has moments he wants to try again, Rogue has already lived past those moments. The fact that someone remembers you does not create an obligation to keep your current life empty. If you view these scenes only as a repetition of a failed past romance, you miss something. It is the difference between cherishing the past and trying to return to it.

Kerry Eurodyne faces Johnny's shadow from a different direction. Even after becoming a famous musician, he is not free from the expectations of past colleagues and the industry. While going through the band's reunion, the conflict and potential collaboration with Us Cracks, and his anger toward his own work, Kerry moves beyond being a character who simply reminisces about Johnny. His problem is whether he can make his own choices now instead of living as a name attached to someone else's legend.

The sense of liberation seen on stage and on the yacht can be read as the possibility that one does not have to repeat the same type of success. However, there is no need to conclude that destructive impulses are true freedom. What matters is what Kerry has been afraid of and in what relationships he tries to make different decisions. A romance with V is one path that arises depending on conditions and choices, and even if they remain friends, this story of self-discovery holds meaning.

These side branches do not seem to be directly connected to the cure in the main story. However, they shape who V contacts at the end and what kind of life they cherish. Johnny, too, can gradually move away from the attitude of seeing others only as a backdrop for his own rebellion. What even those who left their names in the city learn again is, in the end, relationships. What attitude to show to a living person right now becomes a more difficult task than a legend that has already ended.
