The Invasion of Korhal and the Crumbling Dominion

The massive fleet of the United Earth Directorate descended, piercing through Korhal's crimson atmosphere. The Dominion's orbital defense line, Mengsk's pride and joy, crumbled helplessly before the precise strikes. The skies of Augustgrad were filled with the burning wreckage of Battlecruisers, while only desperate sirens echoed across the ground.
Admiral Gerard DuGalle stood on the bridge of his flagship, the Aleksander, looking down at this scene of overwhelming destruction with cold eyes. The orders flowing from his lips were firm, calculated, and utterly devoid of mercy. The Dominion's communication network was completely paralyzed, jammed by the UED's signals.
One by one, Mengsk's elite Battlecruisers lost their engines and crashed to the surface. It was the moment the pride of the Terran Dominion, which had once ruled the Koprulu Sector, was shattered to pieces. The UED's Valkyrie frigates and Goliath divisions seized the capital's main roads, advancing relentlessly toward the imperial palace.
Deep within the imperial palace, Arcturus Mengsk tightly gripped his shaking command table. The reports of defeat pouring across the screens were eating away at his sanity. He could not accept the reality that the empire he built could collapse so hollowly, but the tide of battle was already irreversible.
The defense towers on the outskirts of the palace were turned to ashes by the bombardment of UED Siege Tanks. Terrified citizens fled to underground shelters, and the streets were filled only with the sound of marching boots and explosions. Even Mengsk's personal guard could not maintain their formation against the overwhelming enemy firepower and were helplessly pushed back.
Mengsk wiped his face, distorted with rage, forced to choose between fighting a final battle or making a humiliating escape. In his eyes, the fear of losing his empire and the survival instinct of refusing to die like this clashed violently. Ultimately, he ordered his personal transport to be prepared in the secret hangar.
At that moment, DuGalle's transmission broke through the palace's encrypted channel. The old admiral appeared on the screen, wearing the relaxed smile of a victor, and demanded the Emperor's surrender. His cold voice, declaring that Mengsk's short and futile reign was over and urging him to lay down his arms and face judgment, deeply wounded Mengsk's pride.
Mengsk spat harsh curses at DuGalle on the screen and unilaterally cut the transmission. He had absolutely no intention of surrendering, and ordered his remaining forces to fight to the death solely to buy time for his transport to lift off. A tense atmosphere hung in the palace corridors, with a bloody final shootout imminent.
An Unexpected Savior and Mengsk's Escape

Just as the UED assault forces were about to breach the main gates of the palace, a massive warp signature was detected in the upper atmosphere. Signals of completely unexpected party crashers began appearing on DuGalle's fleet radar. Golden Protoss vessels and a worn, familiar Terran cruiser broke through the blockade.
Jim Raynor's Hyperion broke orbit and descended over Augustgrad at a furious speed. The Hyperion's main batteries fired, instantly scattering the formations of the UED vanguard surrounding the palace. Taking advantage of the chaos, Protoss Warp Gates opened, pouring blue-glowing warriors onto the ground.
Fenix, encased in the cold metallic body of a Dragoon, stepped into the heart of the battlefield, melting enemy armored divisions with plasma fire. Beside him, Zealots roared as they tore through the UED infantry's defensive lines. The overwhelming offensive of the Directorate was forced to falter momentarily in the face of this sudden intervention.
Mengsk was utterly astonished to see Raynor and the Protoss on his screens. He could not comprehend why the very people who should hate him the most were risking their lives to rescue him, but now was not the time to question motives. Seizing the chaos, he led his guards and rushed toward the transport in the secret hangar.
Raynor bit his lip, gripping the controls tightly. The fact that he had to personally rescue Mengsk—the man who had abandoned Kerrigan on Tarsonis—twisted his stomach in knots. Yet, knowing it was an unavoidable choice to stop a far greater threat, he struggled to suppress his boiling rage.
Fenix was also displeased with helping an dishonorable man, but he silently held the defensive line to keep his promise to his old comrade, Raynor. As the Protoss fire support cleared a path for the transport's takeoff, Mengsk's ship roared to life, escaping the burning palace and soaring frantically toward orbit.
Watching this entire sequence from the bridge of the Aleksander, DuGalle slammed his fist in anger. It was a humiliation to watch his prey slip right out of the hunter's net before his very eyes. He immediately scrambled interceptors, but Raynor and Fenix's fleet was already closely escorting the transport into orbit.
Despite the fierce pursuit of the UED fleet, the rebel and Protoss allied fleet successfully made their warp jump and vanished from sight. Despite the victory of capturing Korhal, the fact that they had let Mengsk slip away remained a painful blunder for DuGalle. A heavy silence settled over the bridge, robbing them of the joy of victory.
Duran's Venom and the Distorted Truth

Even before the aftermath of Korhal's capture could fade, the atmosphere aboard the Aleksander was frozen cold. DuGalle stared at the tactical map, unable to suppress his anger over losing Mengsk. Just then, Samir Duran entered the bridge with his characteristically stealthy steps, approaching the Admiral and speaking in a soft but ominous voice.
Duran handed over a data pad, claiming that unauthorized Ghost signals had been detected on the planet Braxis. The data he presented contained evidence that Vice Admiral Alexei Stukov was secretly reassembling the Psi Disrupter, which he had been ordered to destroy. Hearing the report, DuGalle furrowed his brow in disbelief.
DuGalle could not easily accept that his lifelong friend and most trusted subordinate had disobeyed his direct orders. He tried to brush aside his suspicion, telling himself that Stukov must have a valid reason. However, Duran played a cleverly edited communication log, fueling the Admiral's anxiety.
In the recording, Stukov's voice was stripped of context, making it sound as though he intended to break away from UED control and establish his own faction. Duran quietly whispered a fatal lie into the Admiral's ear: that the Vice Admiral might use the Disrupter to bring the Zerg Swarm under his control and rebel against the Directorate.
The fatigue of the Korhal campaign and the stress of losing Mengsk clouded DuGalle's rational judgment. Duran's venomous words watered the small seed of doubt in the Admiral's heart, growing it into uncontrollable distrust. DuGalle's eyes gradually began to fill with a cold sense of betrayal.
Duran urged a decision, warning that if they did not destroy the Disrupter and execute the traitor immediately, the entire UED expedition would be in jeopardy. He volunteered to personally lead a strike team to Braxis to put down Stukov's rebellion. Behind his seemingly loyal gaze lay a horrific conspiracy.
DuGalle fell into deep anguish as he gazed out at the vast cosmos. The reality of having to brand a friend with whom he had shared life and death for decades as a traitor felt like it was tearing his heart apart. However, his sense of duty—to prioritize the cause of the United Earth Directorate and the safety of the expeditionary force—ultimately crushed his personal affection.
Finally, DuGalle let out a heavy sigh and authorized Duran to proceed to Braxis. Though the order was to arrest Stukov and bring him before him, a sinister, murderous smile had already spread across Duran's lips. The misdirected gun was now being aimed at the heart of his most loyal comrade.
The Cold Winds of Braxis and Fractured Friendship

The blizzard howling over the barren ice plains of Braxis was bone-chillingly cold. Amidst the freezing weather, the Psi Disrupter facility hummed with grand mechanical noises, rushing its preparations for activation. Stukov stood in the facility's central control room, checking the faint energy waves emitting from the massive antenna.
He firmly believed that this device was the only hope to protect the UED expeditionary force from the overwhelming numbers of the Zerg. While it was true he had disobeyed DuGalle's orders, he was confident that his friend and superior would eventually understand his deeper intentions. However, his expectations would soon be shattered in a despairing manner.
Stukov attempted to establish communication with Admiral DuGalle, but the connection from the flagship Aleksander was completely blocked. DuGalle, swayed by Duran's manipulation, had decided not to even hear his old friend's explanation and refused to communicate. Sensing that the Admiral had branded him a traitor and delegated full authority to Duran, Stukov let out a deep sigh.
He was certain that Duran was blinding the Admiral and leading the UED expedition to ruin. Even if he were court-martialed for insubordination or branded a traitor, he believed that protecting the Psi Disrupter—the only key to neutralizing the Zerg Swarm—was the only way to save humanity and the expeditionary force, so he reinforced the control room's defenses.
Through the harsh blizzard of Braxis, an alarm blared, signaling that the special forces led by Duran had reached the facility's outer defense perimeter. Stukov smiled bitterly, realizing that DuGalle's order to arrest or kill him had been issued. The tragic reality of his homeland and his close friend, to whom he had dedicated his life, pointing a gun at him weighed heavily on his chest.
The communication cut off coldly with DuGalle's unilateral sentence. Stukov stared at the darkened screen, realizing that Duran had already completely blinded and deafened the Admiral. The horrific truth—that this mysterious agent had intended to destroy the UED from within from the very beginning—finally flashed clearly through his mind.
Outside the control room, loud explosions and warning sirens began to wail. The strike team led by Duran had already infiltrated the facility, tearing down the defensive lines. Stukov looked back at the few loyal guards remaining by his side and smiled bitterly. The unavoidable end had arrived at his doorstep.
He ordered his guards not to engage the UED forces, but to focus entirely on protecting the Disrupter's core components from Duran. Unwilling to shed the blood of his own people, he restricted the use of lethal weapons even while activating the defense systems. It was the final devotion chosen by a true patriot.
A Gunshot in the Dark and the Final Warning

The thick steel doors of the facility were shattered by explosives, and Duran's strike team burst into the control room. Decloaking amidst the acrid smoke, Duran walked slowly toward Stukov, holding a Ghost rifle. In his eyes lay an alien, chilling madness devoid of any human emotion.
Stukov met him unarmed, casually clasping his hands behind his back. Despite DuGalle's order to arrest him, Duran, instead of pulling out handcuffs, aimed the barrel of his rifle at Stukov's chest. Even the strike team members were taken aback by this unexpected action, exchanging uneasy glances.
A mocking sneer spread across Duran's lips. He coldly whispered that Stukov had seen through too much, and that he would have to die quietly here for his great master. Just as Stukov opened his mouth to expose his identity, a sharp gunshot tore through the dark control room, ringing in his ears.
The bullet pierced Stukov's uniform, tearing a fatal hole near his heart. Red blood poured out uncontrollably, and the Vice Admiral collapsed onto the cold metal floor with a painful groan. Without even checking on the fallen man, Duran immediately activated his cloaking device and vanished into thin air.
The sudden death of their commander and the assassin's escape threw the UED soldiers into extreme confusion, leaving them scrambling. Just then, the control room's hologram projector flickered on, displaying the image of Admiral DuGalle. Seeing his old friend covered in blood and gasping for breath on the screen, DuGalle's face turned pale with shock and horror.
In a trembling voice, DuGalle desperately called for medical staff while shouting Stukov's name. Spitting out the blood pooling in his mouth, Stukov barely held onto his fading consciousness. He painfully revealed the horrific truth: that it was Duran who shot him, and that he was an infested spy who had approached them from the start with the sole intent of betrayal.
At the threshold of death, Stukov did not resent DuGalle. Instead, he pleaded with him not to let his death be in vain, emphasizing that this Psi Disrupter was absolutely necessary to face the Zerg. His final words, warning that Duran was trying to destroy the facility and urging him to protect the device, faded into the cold air of the control room.
DuGalle screamed, reaching out toward the screen, but Stukov's head had already slumped lifelessly to the floor. The true friend with whom he had traversed battlefields for decades closed his eyes amidst misunderstanding and conspiracy. DuGalle collapsed, devastated by the realization that his own foolish suspicion had driven his most precious comrade to his death.
Belated Regret and Securing the Disrupter

Slumped on the bridge of the Aleksander, DuGalle buried his face in his hands, weeping tears of bitter regret. The guilt of branding his most loyal friend with the label of a traitor—a title he so thoroughly despised—tore his soul to shreds. He deeply resented his own arrogance for being played by Duran's sweet lies.
Yet, he was not even allowed the time to grieve. Urgent warning alarms began to blare from the Braxis control room. The fleeing Duran had overloaded the facility's central reactor, activating a self-destruct sequence to blow up the entire Psi Disrupter. Red emergency lights flashed as the countdown began.
Suppressing his grief, DuGalle stood up and reclaimed his cold, commanding rationality. In his eyes burned an uncontrollable rage toward Duran and a resolute determination to protect Stukov's legacy at all costs. He immediately issued an absolute order to all forces on Braxis to prevent the reactor's explosion.
Driven by their anger over Stukov's death, the UED soldiers charged toward the reactor, destroying the automated defense turrets Duran had hacked. Even as Zerg swarms breached the facility, turning the situation into utter chaos, the soldiers risked their lives, advancing step by step toward the self-destruct override panel.
After a fierce firefight, technicians successfully reached the central reactor's control console. Sweating profusely, they tapped away at the keyboards to decrypt the complex encryption codes Duran had set. In that suffocating moment with less than a minute left on the countdown, DuGalle clenched his fists on the bridge, praying desperately for their success.
Finally, just before the countdown hit zero, the system override succeeded, halting the reactor's overload. The flashing red warning lights turned off, and the grand hum of the Disrupter returned to its normal operating state. As the cheers of the soldiers echoed over the comms, DuGalle finally let out a deep sigh of relief, his tense expression softening.
The Psi Disrupter was preserved intact, and its powerful waves proved its might by throwing the Zerg swarms across Braxis into utter disarray. It was the moment Stukov's judgment was proven correct, but the price paid was far too cruel. Looking at the device secured with his friend's blood, DuGalle had to swallow tears of blood in silence.
The Admiral ordered an immediate reorganization of the entire fleet. Their objective was now clear. To avenge Stukov and end this hellish war, the UED fleet turned its bow toward the Zerg homeworld of Char. In DuGalle's heart, only a single obsession remained: to subjugate the Overmind and set everything right.
The Descent on Char and the Subjugation of the Overmind

Above the crimson skies of Char, a planet covered in endless volcanic ash and boiling lava, the massive, invincible fleet of the UED made its appearance. The waves of the Psi Disrupter activated on Braxis reached all the way here, leaving the feral Zerg swarms disoriented and scrambling. The perfect conditions for a descent were set.
At DuGalle's command, hundreds of transports broke through orbit and poured down toward the surface. Due to the Disrupter's influence, resistance from Scourge swarms, which would normally have blanketed the sky, was minimal. UED heavy infantry and Siege Tanks successfully secured a beachhead on the ash-covered ground, tightening the noose around their target.
Their target was the massive mass of flesh pulsating in the middle of the volcanic zone—the newly born, young Overmind. Though still incomplete and not fully grown, it was surrounded by powerful defensive forces instinctively trying to protect their master. After a bloody battle, the UED finally reached the Overmind.
Under the cover of heavily armed escort forces, UED chief scientists and Medics cautiously approached the massive membrane of the Overmind. Sensing the presence of the intruders, the young Overmind let out a horrific psionic shriek. Some soldiers exposed to the waves collapsed, clutching their heads in pain, but the operation pressed on without stopping.
The scientists plunged thick syringes into the Overmind's nerve clusters, administering massive doses of powerful neural inhibitors and psionic sedatives. The colossal mass of flesh writhed in agony, shaking the ground, but as the drugs spread through its neural pathways, its violent movements gradually began to slow. It was the process of paralyzing the beast's mind.
Next, engineers ruthlessly drove massive metal control nodes and restraining devices through the Overmind's outer hide. A horrific tearing sound echoed as flesh and machinery were forcibly fused. The Overmind's central nervous system was forcibly linked to the UED's mainframe computer, and its vital signs were converted into data and transmitted.
The Overmind's psionic resistance flared up fiercely one last time, but it was not enough to overcome the cold control of the machinery. Slowly, the Overmind's red glow faded, and it grew docile alongside the rhythmic mechanical hums. On the screens of the Aleksander, a green signal flashed, indicating that the Overmind's brainwaves were perfectly synchronized with the UED's control system.
DuGalle took a deep breath as he watched the monster completely submit through the bridge screens. He had brought the universe's worst predator—something no one in human history had ever accomplished—to its knees at humanity's feet. On his face, a sense of achievement and a bitter grief for Stukov mingled in a complex display of emotion.
An Incomplete Victory and the Looming Shadow

Thunderous cheers erupted among the UED soldiers stationed on Char's surface and in orbit. They drank in the joy of victory, firmly believing they had saved not just the Koprulu Sector, but the entire universe. The flag of the United Earth Directorate fluttering over the ash-covered ground stood majestic, as if symbolizing humanity's grand triumph.
To test their control, the scientists used the Overmind to order nearby Zerg swarms to attack. Astonishingly, the ferocious monsters bared their claws and spat acid at their own kind under the UED's command. It was a horrific sight, proving that the project to weaponize and control the Zerg Swarm had succeeded flawlessly.
DuGalle transmitted the victory report to Earth, declaring that they had ended all threats in this sector. Yet, an indelible anxiety and emptiness still lingered in a corner of his heart. This victory, which would have been impossible without Stukov's sacrifice, felt less like glory and more like an unhealable wound and a heavy burden of responsibility.
Scientists monitored the Overmind's neural network 24/7, sweating to suppress any potential psionic backlash. Though they kept it suppressed with machinery and drugs, a primal rage still simmered deep within the Overmind. This control was as precarious and fragile as walking on a sheet of glass.
Even more ominous was Duran's whereabouts. Having vanished into thin air after assassinating Stukov and activating the self-destruct sequence, he was nowhere to be found on the UED's radar networks. Without even uncovering the identity of the 'great master' Duran claimed to serve, DuGalle could not lower his guard, knowing the shadow of an unseen enemy could tighten around the fleet's neck at any moment.
And in the dark flipside of Char, deep within the abyss of space, another entity watched this entire situation with amusement. It was Kerrigan, the Queen of Blades, who had maintained her sanity perfectly despite the waves of the Psi Disrupter, secretly rallying her scattered swarms. A cold, cruel smile played on her lips.
Though the Zerg Swarm was split in two by the UED securing the young Overmind, Kerrigan was in no rush. Instead, she merely sneered, thinking that the arrogant humans were digging their own graves. She was drawing up a massive board to exploit the Zerg controlled by DuGalle, aiming to bring every faction in the Koprulu Sector to their knees before her.
The United Earth Directorate had captured Korhal and dominated the Overmind, seemingly emerging as the ultimate victors. Yet, this was merely the calm before the storm, heralding the true disaster to come. The real war in the Koprulu Sector, where the human-controlled Zerg and the wrath of the Queen of Blades would clash, had not even begun its cruel prelude.
