Key information
The Coalition has confirmed that Gears of War: E-Day experienced significant online service disruptions due to a DDoS attack. This malicious activity involved flooding servers with excessive traffic, which prevented legitimate users from accessing the game, causing intermittent disconnections and login failures.
The developer stated on X that their teams are actively monitoring and mitigating the situation. While the official service page currently indicates that all titles are functioning without complications, the studio remains on high alert for potential further attacks throughout the day.
Beyond these technical issues, the game faces a modest commercial start. Analyst Rhys Elliott of Alinea Analytics estimates that 230,000 copies were sold between the October 1 early access period and the October 6 official launch.
Assessing the game's reach is complicated by Game Pass integration. Alinea Analytics estimates that 1.7 million players accessed the title via subscription, while 722,000 users purchased the Premium upgrade for early access. The studio has expressed gratitude to the community for their patience during the recent service outages.
