Key information
Gears of War: E-Day has officially launched worldwide, taking players back to the opening hours of the Locust invasion fourteen years before the original game. Developed in Unreal Engine 5, the title transports users to the city of Kalona where Marcus Fenix, Dom Santiago, and their squad fight to survive the cataclysmic emergence event.
The game retains its signature cover-based shooting mechanics while introducing modernized movement and traversal options, including sliding, vaulting, and blind shooting from cover. Players can utilize a situational arsenal ranging from the Chainsaw Lancer and Gnasher shotgun to the Longshot Sniper, as well as engage in close-quarters melee combat with items like metal pipes and the Snub pistol.
The campaign features open areas with optional side missions that offer weapon mods and extra story context, alongside audio chimes indicating nearby collectables containing lore. Additionally, the game includes a reimagined Horde Siege co-op mode with character classes like Assault, Marksman, Medic, and Breacher, alongside a refined Versus PvP mode.
The release is available across Steam, PC via Xbox, Xbox Series X|S, and Game Pass, featuring Xbox Play Anywhere support at no additional cost for console and PC. Technical highlights include 4K resolution and up to 60FPS with a compatible display, alongside two-player split-screen support exclusively on consoles.
