Key information
Developer The Coalition has officially confirmed that Gears of War: E-Day experienced a distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attack over the weekend. This malicious activity targeted the online services of the action title, which is available on PC and Xbox Series X and S.
The attack resulted in intermittent login issues and disconnects for players attempting to access the game. The studio stated that its teams are actively monitoring and mitigating the situation to maintain stability, noting that the game is currently up and running.
While online speculation has attempted to link the attack to various motivations, including claims regarding the game's content, no official reason for the incident has been established. Currently, the title maintains a mostly positive user review rating on the Steam platform.
The incident follows reports of internal staff concerns regarding potential layoffs at The Coalition. Despite unofficial estimates suggesting a soft sales start of 230,000 copies, studio head Mike Crump emphasized that success is measured by the game's ability to showcase the capabilities of the Xbox hardware.
