Following a record-breaking beta participation, Blizzard is detailing its long-term vision for World of Warcraft: Forever. Revealed at BlizzCon 2026, the project aims to modernize the original Azeroth experience through technical infrastructure updates, including a new server system that removes boundaries between realms, while preserving the core spirit of the classic game.

The studio is implementing a horizontal progression strategy, maintaining a level 60 cap to ensure that older zones, challenges, and gear remain strategically relevant. Future content updates will introduce new areas, quests, and raids, with Blizzard intending to prevent older equipment from becoming obsolete by limiting power gaps between raid tiers.

Gameplay adjustments focus on balancing historical specializations to ensure each has a distinct role without making classes interchangeable. Additionally, Blizzard plans to recalibrate dungeon experience gains, increasing rewards for defeating monsters while slightly reducing quest-based experience to better encourage open-world exploration alongside cooperative play.

Collaborative features like the campment system, which was well-received during the beta, are slated for further evolution. While the beta was restricted to level 30, developers are currently exploring how these social tools will integrate with crafting and professions at higher levels, with community feedback continuing to shape the game's evolving identity.
