Epic Games is reportedly shifting toward an AI-first game development strategy. According to a report by Jason Schreier, internal sources indicate the studio intends to prioritize generative tools across its production pipelines.

The transition will debut with an unannounced Disney shooter featuring Marvel and Star Wars characters. This project, which previously targeted a March 2027 release, will utilize Anthropic's Claude AI suite to generate art and code, with human staff tasked with reviewing the output.

Company communications director Jake Jones stated that Epic Games is adopting AI-accelerated development, emphasizing that human developers remain the creative drivers. However, internal reports suggest the announcement has faced skepticism and backlash from staff members.

This strategic pivot follows significant layoffs of 1,000 employees at the company. Meanwhile, Epic Games continues efforts to compete with Steam, including plans to bring the Epic Games Launcher to Linux.
