A study conducted by the analytics firm Cyabra indicates that a recent boycott campaign against PlayStation, sparked by reports regarding the cessation of physical game production by 2028, was significantly amplified by inauthentic accounts. Research findings suggest that approximately 25% of all messages associated with the boycott originated from non-human profiles.

The impact of these automated accounts was particularly evident on official PlayStation social media pages. Cyabra identified 842 such profiles, which collectively generated over one million views and 100,000 interactions. Notably, the study found that up to 43% of responses on certain posts were attributed to these bots, while hashtags containing misspellings, such as #NoDiskNoBuy, were propagated almost entirely by automated systems.

Despite the prevalence of bot activity, the research confirms that genuine player frustration exists. The majority of organic engagement, totaling 54.9%, was concentrated within 50 posts from 42 authentic accounts. Many of these viral posts originated from users with fewer than 5,000 followers, reflecting sincere community disappointment.

The discourse has already begun to influence future hardware expectations. Approximately 4% of related conversations involve the upcoming PS6, with users utilizing hashtags like #NotBuyingPS6 and #BoycottPS6 to express their intent to avoid the console before its official reveal by Sony.
