Epic Games has released a preliminary version of its redesigned Epic Games Launcher for Windows, macOS, and Linux. Following criticism regarding the previous application's performance, the company rebuilt the software from scratch using a process described as "vibe coding," where artificial intelligence generated the code under team supervision. This new architecture aims to significantly improve speed and responsiveness.

The new launcher features a unified interface for the store, library, and development tools, allowing users to customize navigation bars and organize games into visual collections. It includes functionality to detect games from other platforms, such as Steam, and provides detailed status pages for installed titles. However, this preliminary release temporarily lacks achievements, user profiles, and desktop notifications for Linux.

Performance measurements commissioned by Epic from Keywords Studios indicate the new launcher starts in an average of 5.47 seconds, compared to 10.07 seconds for Steam. While the update offers faster library loading and navigation, Epic advises that users should continue utilizing the previous launcher for Fortnite, Rocket League, and Unreal Engine development until further optimizations are implemented.

The company also announced plans to bring Fortnite to Linux natively once a new implementation of Easy Anti-Cheat is prepared. Users can download the preliminary version now, though it will automatically replace the existing launcher. Epic Games expects the final, stable release of the new store to arrive in 2027.
