Key information
Developer Owlcat is working on Warhammer 40,000: Dark Heresy, a tactical and bloody CRPG from the team behind Rogue Trader. In the game, players take on the role of an acolyte of the Inquisition.
According to senior narrative designer Veronika Larionova in an interview, players can finish an investigation at any time because their character is an agent of the Golden Throne whose word stands as undeniable truth. Players can accuse any suspect the moment evidence is logged in their inquisitorial journal, even if the only justification is a feeling that the suspect is breathing oddly.
However, continuing to investigate can uncover new evidence or conclusions that add detail, reshape the accusation, or clear the suspect entirely. While uncovering the actual truth is not mandatory, the power to use that information rests with the player.
Larionova noted that there are no right or wrong choices in the game, only decisions with consequences that the inhabitants of the Scintilla system must face. Different choices can open specific story paths, grant rewards, alter NPC feelings, and unlock additional endings.
As Warhammer 40,000: Dark Heresy receives an early gameplay look, no release date has been announced yet, though the game can be wishlisted on Steam.
