Key information
Microsoft Gaming executive Asha Sharma has announced the creation of XP, a new division dedicated to transmedia entertainment for Xbox franchises. This initiative aims to engage fans through film, television, consumer products, and live experiences, moving beyond traditional gaming boundaries.
The XP division operates through four core investment areas: XBOX Pictures for linear storytelling, XBOX Products for merchandise, XBOX Places for live events and attractions, and XBOX Partnerships for brand collaborations. These pillars are designed to extend the reach of Xbox intellectual properties.
Leadership changes accompany this launch, with Kayleen Walters, formerly of Mojang and Lucasfilm, appointed as president of XP. Maria Angelidou-Smith, previously chief product officer at Reddit, will succeed Walters as CEO of Mojang and Minecraft.
The division builds on existing successes, including the Fallout series on Prime Video and the Minecraft film. Future projects include a Diablo animated series, a Call of Duty film, and a Minecraft theme park scheduled for 2027.
