Key information

Epic Games has officially unveiled a redesigned version of its Epic Games Launcher. The company stated that this updated platform, which manages game libraries and social features, was built utilizing generative artificial intelligence to improve overall performance.

The company described the development process as "vibe coding," a term referring to software created primarily through AI prompts. Martin Keely, vice president and general manager of the Epic Games Store, noted that AI tools enabled a small team to rewrite the codebase efficiently, resulting in a faster and more responsive application.

According to Keely, the AI implementation focused strictly on architecture and code efficiency rather than artistic assets or design. He clarified that the launcher's visual updates were managed by Epic’s internal design group, distinguishing this project from other company initiatives that utilize AI for artistic content.

The new launcher supports Windows and Mac, with a Linux version currently in development. This release aligns with CEO Tim Sweeney’s broader strategy of retooling developers for AI acceleration, even as the company continues to navigate competition with established platforms like Steam.
