Blizzard Entertainment has rolled back the recent release of patch 3.0.1 for WarCraft III: Reforged. The update was intended to address long-standing player grievances regarding the game's visual style, specifically targeting concerns over unit sizes, animations, and spell effects that reportedly hindered gameplay.
The patch, which underwent several weeks of testing on the public test realm, aimed to align the game's aesthetics more closely with the original release. However, the deployment caused significant technical issues, rendering existing campaign save files incompatible with the updated version of the game.
Although Blizzard included a warning regarding save file incompatibility at the beginning of the official patch notes, the developer acknowledged that many players were caught off guard by the disruption. Consequently, the team decided to revert the update to provide users with additional time to finish their current campaigns.
To prevent similar confusion when the patch is eventually reintroduced, Blizzard has added a prominent save compatibility warning directly to the Battle.net launcher. This measure is intended to ensure that players are adequately informed before the changes go live again.
