Key information
Ubisoft has entered negotiations with a works council to implement a voluntary departure plan across three of its German locations. The publisher aims to reduce its total headcount by approximately 100 employees through this initiative.
The affected sites include Ubisoft Dusseldorf, Ubisoft Berlin, and Ubisoft Mainz. The latter is recognized as the primary developer for the Anno series, including the upcoming title Anno 117: Pax Romana. Ubisoft Dusseldorf and Ubisoft Berlin have recently contributed to projects such as Rainbow Six Siege.
This proposal follows a period of significant expansion for the company's German operations, which previously aimed to reach over 1,000 staff members by the end of 2023. The current strategy of offering voluntary exits is reportedly influenced by German labor regulations, which are more stringent than those in regions like the United States.
These potential cuts occur amidst a broader trend of workforce reductions across various global Ubisoft studios throughout the year. The company has faced ongoing organizational instability, including studio closures and staff layoffs, alongside labor disputes regarding remote work policies in France and Italy.
