Key information
The upcoming Dungeons & Dragons and World of Warcraft crossover publication launches on 17th November. Principal designer James Wyatt stated during a press briefing that the 256-page book should be viewed as a paraphrased version of Blizzard's MMO rather than a direct, word-for-word translation of its computer mechanics.
The volume introduces sixteen playable species, adding eleven new options alongside five already present in D&D. New subclasses like the Demon Hunter Ranger and Path of the Elements Barbarian are included, alongside sixty new spells and profession-based crafting adjustments.
Players can explore the continent of Azeroth and encounter famous characters such as Illidan, Arthas, and Sylvanas. Dungeons like Scarlet Monastery and Dire Maul are reinterpreted for the tabletop format, but principal designer James Wyatt noted that raids are designed for small groups of four to five players rather than twenty or forty.
According to James Wyatt, the tabletop experience deliberately avoids MMO staples such as grinding bosses for tiered loot, repeatedly fighting resurrecting foes, or using Spirit Healer resurrections. Furthermore, the traditional Horde versus Alliance faction divide is left entirely up to the Dungeon Master.
