Key information
According to Bruce Nesmith, former lead designer of The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim at Bethesda, The Elder Scrolls 6 could introduce boats and naval combat as major new features. In an interview published on 5 outubro de 2026, he noted that the franchise has not previously explored player-controlled vehicles in a significant way and views navigation as a natural evolution for the upcoming title.
Nesmith suggested that if the game is set in Iliac Bay, a frequently theorized fan setting, the region would support expanded water-based activities. He envisions dedicated navigation progression systems, water-related skills, sea creatures like sharks, krakens, and Sea Elves, and custom magic types, comparing the potential impact to dragons in Skyrim.
Despite supporting surface-level navigation and combat, Nesmith does not believe the game needs underwater exploration. Drawing on his experience with Fallout 4, where an internal underwater area concept was abandoned, he emphasized the importance of prioritizing development resources rather than splitting them between two distinct systems.
Meanwhile, Bethesda has shared very little official information about The Elder Scrolls 6. The studio stated that recent internal changes and staff reductions have not impacted the development schedule, and Xbox representatives recently viewed a game demonstration, although fan speculations such as the subtitle Sentinel remain unconfirmed.
