Key information
Valve has expanded its developer program on Steam by providing additional information regarding how systems play their games. According to a Steamworks developer news blog post, this update builds upon initiatives started in early 2026, which initially introduced optional frame rate reporting for Steam Deck games and user review system specifications. The latest expansion broadens Steam Deck frame rate data to better illustrate the player experience.
Developers publishing titles on Steam can now access frame rate data presented as a distribution, revealing the exact percentage of a game operating at specific frame rates. Valve selected the Steam Deck as the initial system configuration due to its known hardware profile, simplifying data interpretation and establishing a foundation for future performance data collection. This performance feedback is provided as anonymized averages and distributions, complementing the existing Steam Verified feedback system.
Recent updates focusing on both the Steam Machine and third-party systems running SteamOS suggest that Valve may eventually incorporate additional hardware configurations into its frame-rate metrics, mirroring the data-gathering approach used by the Steam Hardware & Software Survey.
