Jagex has announced RuneScape Reignited, introducing a new character type within the existing RS3 rather than a separate upgraded version of the classic game. While the announcement highlights a fresh start without unpopular systems like Treasure Hunter, existing players have expressed mixed reactions and concern that the addition could divide the community.
Reignited characters begin with no progress and utilize an isolated economy. They can play on existing worlds or new Reignited-exclusive worlds, and while they can interact and form clans with regular players, they cannot trade with them or fight the same bosses. Developers stated that character types cannot be switched once selected and that no new updates will be exclusive to Reignited characters.
Some community members have voiced strong skepticism on platforms like Reddit and X. Users questioned whether the new mode renders thousands of hours of previous progress worthless and expressed worry that fragmenting the player base could make group content even harder to find. Conversely, some players staged a virtual protest in Falador to register their discontent.
