Rockstar Games has significantly expanded its workforce to support the development of Grand Theft Auto 6. By 2026, the studio employed 4,711 staff members across 12 offices, a substantial increase from the 2,441 employees present during the 2018 launch of Red Dead Redemption 2.

Company leadership asserts that future titles will not require an eight-year development cycle. Co-head of development Phil Hooker stated that the engine, tools, and team established for this project provide a foundation to create compelling content more efficiently in the future.

The development process for GTA 6 faced multiple scheduling adjustments, moving from an initial 2025 target to a final release date of November 19, 2026. Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick supported these delays, emphasizing the importance of delivering a polished entertainment experience to consumers.

Security measures were tightened following unauthorized leaks, including the termination of remote work in April 2024. Rockstar continues to manage ongoing threats from a hacker group that has circulated in-development footage and demanded concessions from parent company Take-Two Interactive.
