Key information

Paramount Skydance has acquired Warner Bros. Discovery to form a new entertainment giant operating under the Skydance name. According to Variety information shared by Skydance president Andy Gordon, the company intends to combine the video game and entertainment divisions of Warner and Paramount into a single entity.

An internal FAQ consulted by journalist Chris Kerr indicates that both WB Games and Paramount Games will persist under Skydance Games, continuing to develop and publish titles based on their respective franchises. However, an internal source noted that numerous questions remain unresolved.

The merger unites major properties including Harry Potter, Mortal Kombat, DC, Game of Thrones, Star Trek, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Tony Driscoll, current president of Paramount Game Studios and a former Epic Games figure, will lead the new gaming division.

Financed largely by debt, the acquisition leaves Skydance with an 80 billion dollars debt load, and massive layoffs are already planned as part of the restructuring. Meanwhile, former Activision Blizzard boss Bobby Kotick has joined the Skydance board of directors as an independent administrator.
