Key information

A software application named Overdrive has surfaced on social media, purportedly functioning as a storefront for jailbroken PlayStation 5 consoles. According to reports from Insider Gaming, a video shared on October 11 by Edigax displays an interface resembling the official PlayStation Store that offers games and downloadable content without charge.

The application displays file sizes and review scores rather than monetary prices. While the library allegedly includes titles such as Forza Horizon 5 and Battlefield 6, the origin of the software and its actual functionality remain unverified. One Reddit user has characterized the application as being very poorly constructed.

Overdrive follows the release of the Relapse jailbreak, which supports PS5 and PS5 Pro firmware versions 7.00 through 13.60. Sony has responded to recent homebrew activity by releasing firmware updates 14.00 and 14.10, which include security patches. Users who update their consoles currently lose access to these jailbreak capabilities.

Experts warn that utilizing such software carries significant risks, including potential console bricking, malware exposure, and permanent PlayStation Network account bans. Furthermore, jailbreaking voids the manufacturer warranty. Sony has not issued an official statement regarding Overdrive, though it is anticipated that the company may attempt to mitigate such unauthorized access through future system software updates.
