Producer Takeshi Yamanaka announced that Phoenix-Cyclops will arrive as the first DLC character for MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls on November 2. Voiced by Ray Chase, this version of Scott Summers aims to offer a fresh take on the character, moving away from his traditional portrayals in past Marvel fighting games to provide players with an unexpected experience.
Mechanically, Phoenix-Cyclops functions as an all-rounder capable of controlling the screen with Optic Blast techniques and fire-based attacks. Players accumulate energy called Sun Shards by using Optic Blasts; upon collecting four, Cyclops can transform into his Dark Phoenix form. Inspired by the Avengers vs. X-Men storyline, this state grants a significant power boost but carries risks, including a reduction in health.
To accommodate fans who prefer the character's traditional appearance, the developer is releasing Classic and Legacy DLC costumes alongside the character. These designs ensure players can experience the character in their preferred style. Additionally, attendees of EVO France, held from October 9 to October 11, will have the opportunity to play as Phoenix-Cyclops before his official release.
