Beijing-based developer S-Game has announced that its upcoming action RPG, Phantom Blade Zero, will arrive on PlayStation 5, Steam, and the Epic Games Store on October 29. This new entry in the Rainblood/Phantom Blade series blends wuxia, fantasy, and folk horror elements into a unique style the studio calls kungfupunk.
The gameplay features intense combat mechanics heavily influenced by soulslike titles, prioritizing parrying and cinematic finishers reminiscent of John Wick. S-Game collaborated with professional martial arts choreographers from classic wuxia cinema to ensure the combat remains authentic to traditional Chinese martial arts.
Players control an elite assassin named Soul, who is framed for his master's murder. Following a near-fatal heart injury, Soul has only 66 days to live, introducing a time-based mechanic consistent with previous series entries.
Pre-orders are currently open for the $59.99 Standard Edition and $69.99 Digital Deluxe Edition. While Epic Games Store pre-orders include a Fortnite cosmetic set, no physical release has been confirmed, and the studio suggests a disc version is unlikely.
