Key information
Studio Lifeforms has unveiled Etre, a third-person action adventure game where players control a caped starjumper named Xyle. The protagonist journeys to Orbis, a planet-sized cosmic intelligence, to locate his lost love, Atel. Players must navigate an interconnected labyrinth of luminous architecture while deciding the ultimate fate of this awakening consciousness.
Gameplay involves fluid combat, spatial puzzle-solving, and scanning objects to uncover lore. Xyle must contend with corrupted angel tech and living geometry while exploiting terrain features. As players acquire new abilities, they can access previously unreachable areas, a structure described as a metroidbrainia. The experience draws visual inspiration from 1970s and 80s European graphic novels alongside Remedy's Control.
The world of Orbis is populated by warring factions and complex environments. According to the Steam page, player choices and discoveries directly influence the evolution of the cosmic mind, potentially resulting in a balanced world, a transcendent god-mind, or a more terrifying outcome.
While the game has drawn comparisons to Metroid Prime and the Psychonauts series for its exploration of inner worlds, Studio Lifeforms has not yet provided a release date for the title.
