Gears of War E-DAY has an official release date of October 6, 2026, though players who purchased more expensive editions gained early access starting October 1, 2026. Early players have already uncovered hidden secrets within the campaign, most notably the return of the chicken gun, a devastating weapon linked to a long-running series joke.
The chicken joke has a history dating back to 2011 with Gears of War 3, where specific sequences could trigger a fire-breathing golden chicken, along with other poultry-themed easter eggs by The Coalition. In Gears of War E-DAY, players have found that destroying a total of six egg cartons located throughout the open area of Act 2, Chapter 2 in any order will cause a white and red grenade launcher known as the chicken pistol to drop.
While this weapon previously appeared in Gears of War 3 as well as special multiplayer events in Gears 4 and Gears 5, content creator EMK KrAuSeR suggests it may eventually arrive in the multiplayer of the new title as well. The discovery marks another appearance of the recurring chicken joke by The Coalition.
