Key information

Vince "KINGPIN" Lucido recently stated that a conflict with NVIDIA negatively impacted the development of the EVGA GeForce RTX 3090 Ti KINGPIN. According to Lucido, the disagreement centered on power connector requirements, which significantly disrupted the production schedule and limited the total number of units manufactured.

The core of the dispute involved the number of 12VHPWR power connectors integrated into the hardware. Lucido advocated for a dual-connector design, whereas NVIDIA insisted on limiting the flagship card to a single connector. The final product eventually launched with two 16-pin connectors, retailing for $2,500 alongside a 1600 W power supply.

This release occurred approximately three months after the standard RTX 3090 Ti debuted. While Lucido identifies this friction as a major factor in the product's troubled rollout, the specific reasoning behind NVIDIA's preference for a single connector remains unverified and unclear.

Following the termination of EVGA's partnership with NVIDIA in September 2022, all future graphics card projects were canceled. Lucido has since collaborated with ASUS, though no official KINGPIN-branded hardware has been confirmed. He maintains that any future project must support extreme liquid nitrogen overclocking without requiring user modifications.
