Key information
Sega has launched an official Sonic the Hedgehog Discord channel, announcing the new hub on its official social media accounts late on X. The server invites fans to discuss Sonic games, movies, and comics, and to find players for Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds.
The community experienced an immediate surge of popularity, with a launch day Q&A revealing that over 50,000 people joined the server within roughly six hours. To manage the influx, strict moderation features were put in place.
Current restrictions include slow mode to drastically reduce post quantities, and chat limitations that prevent newcomers from posting unless they use a Discord Nitro boost. Additionally, the rules page features a plea to keep the server family friendly, image posting is disabled by default, and an aggressive auto filter removes all-caps messages, while a fan-art channel is planned for a later date.
Despite these harsh moderation practices, the server has remained mostly stable, with members frequently sharing a harmless Discord sticker of the Sonic mascot running towards the screen. Meanwhile, Sega's latest release, Sonic Racing: Crossworlds, has found success by passing 1m sales quickly.
