Warhorse Studios, the developer behind Kingdom Come Deliverance, has expressed hope that the upcoming Grand Theft Auto 6 will establish a new pricing standard for AAA titles. The studio believes that the game's 79,99 dollar price point in the United States could pave the way for other developers to follow suit.
Martin Klima, the Chief Operating Officer at Warhorse Studios, argued in an interview with PC Gamer that increasing the base price of AAA games is a necessary step to address the current industry crisis. He noted that the sector has faced significant challenges, including widespread job losses and studio closures since the coronavirus pandemic.
Klima stated that many companies are currently hesitant to raise prices due to fear. He suggested that Rockstar Games and its parent company, Take-Two Interactive, are uniquely positioned to lead this shift, which he believes should have been implemented long ago to ensure the business's survival.
While 80 euro price points for major releases are becoming common in Spain and other European Union nations, the 80 dollar mark remains a psychological barrier in the United States. Previously, only Nintendo has reached or exceeded this threshold with titles such as Mario Kart World and Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave.
