Key information
S-Game, a developer previously focused on mobile and smaller projects, secured a significant partnership with PlayStation following an unexpected encounter with company executives. Director Soulframe described how a rough mockup presentation in Beijing quickly escalated when high-level figures, including Shuhei Yoshida and Christian Svensson, were invited to view the project.
The interaction led to an invitation for S-Game to participate in the 2023 PlayStation showcase. With only two months to prepare, the team focused on polishing existing assets to create a three-minute trailer. This effort proved highly successful, as the footage became the second most-viewed trailer from the event, trailing only Marvel's Spider-Man 2.
Following the initial showcase, the studio has maintained a close working relationship with PlayStation. The collaboration has evolved significantly over the subsequent three years, culminating in the game receiving its own dedicated State of Play presentation.
Phantom Blade Zero is scheduled for release on PlayStation 5 and PC on October 29. The studio continues to work alongside PlayStation as they approach the final launch window.
