Key information
Alinea Analytics estimates that Gears of War: E-Day has reached 230,000 traditional unit sales. Steam accounts for 168,000 of these purchases, while the Xbox ecosystem, including console and PC, represents 62,000 units.
The title has seen significant engagement through Game Pass, with 1.7 million players accessing the game via the subscription service. Additionally, 722,000 subscribers purchased a 30 dollar upgrade for the Premium Edition, generating approximately 21.7 million dollars in revenue.
Data indicates a disparity in player retention between platforms. On Steam, 33 percent of players logged over 15 hours, compared to 19 percent on Xbox. Conversely, 54 percent of Xbox players played for five hours or less, suggesting the Game Pass model attracts a higher proportion of casual users.
These figures highlight a shift in financial strategy for Xbox, where traditional full-price sales are being impacted by subscription offerings. The company is currently focusing on increasing average revenue per user as subscriber growth stabilizes.
