Key information
The Coalition studio head Mike Crump has addressed internal anxieties regarding potential layoffs at the developer. Following reports of staff concerns about job security amid broader Xbox workforce reductions, Crump emphasized focusing on controllable factors, specifically the successful delivery of Gears of War: E-Day.
While Microsoft has cut nearly 2,000 positions this financial year and reorganized several studios, The Coalition has largely avoided these impacts. However, the studio did experience the departure of E-Day's story director shortly before the title's early access launch.
Looking ahead, Crump stated that E-Day serves as a foundational project for the franchise. He explicitly promised that the next installment in the series will not require as much development time as previous entries.
Microsoft previously committed in June 2024 to continuing the main narrative arc and resolving the cliffhanger from Gears 5. Despite these plans for future content, uncertainty remains regarding whether The Coalition will be the team tasked with developing these subsequent titles.
