Key information
Gears of War: E-Day has launched on Steam, encountering a wave of negative user reviews concerning what some players perceive as excessive woke content. A portion of the complaints centers on Mags Carter, a new character introduced in the prequel.
Dissatisfied users argue that Carter steals the spotlight from legacy protagonists Marcus Fenix and Dominic Santiago. Further grievances target her sexual orientation along with various LGBTQ+ character customization options featured within the multiplayer modes.
Additional complaints focus on requests for classic maps, diverse bosses, more execution animations, and specific multiplayer options. Prior to release, controversy also arose regarding developer The Coalition collaborating with Hit Detection for cultural and sensitivity evaluations.
Despite the negative feedback centering around these controversies, the general reception remains largely favorable. Steam records a mostly positive rating with roughly seventy-five percent positive scores across over four thousand two hundred reviews, while the game also leads sales on the platform.
