Key information
The creative team behind Gears of War: E-Day has officially addressed a persistent fan theory regarding the series' characters. For two decades, some players speculated that the extreme muscular build of COG soldiers was a biological adaptation to Sera's supposedly higher gravitational pull. Lead developers have now confirmed that this theory is entirely unfounded.
According to brand director Nicole Fawcette, the characters' physiques are not the result of planetary physics. Instead, the lore suggests that Gears consume approximately 6,000 calories daily to sustain their mass. Furthermore, the characters' size is attributed to their rigorous training regimens and the necessity of carrying heavy, tank-like armor, which contributes to their larger-than-life aesthetic.
Art director Aryan Hanbeck emphasized that the exaggerated character designs are a deliberate stylistic choice intended to maintain the series' unique charm and mystique. The developers noted that the theory fails to account for the average size of civilians on Sera, who do not share the extreme musculature of the soldiers.
Sera is described as an Earth-like planet featuring two moons, 26-hour days, and 440-day years. While the planet is hollow and currently facing a threat from a mutant horde, the development team clarified that no official lore exists to support the claim of a unique gravitational field impacting human biology.
