Key information

Gears of War: E-Day launched for early access yesterday for purchasers of the Collector's Edition, Premium Edition, or Premium Upgrade Edition. Upon release, players observed that several legacy features from past franchise entries were absent from The Coalition's new title.

The developer explained that the team built the gameplay sandbox entirely from scratch to create a unified experience across PvP, PvE, and the campaign. This allowed for combat and cover innovations, but made it impossible to include every legacy feature at launch.

Among the missing elements are chainsaw duels, meat shields, specific past weapons, leaderboards, and private lobbies. The studio clarified that these options are not permanently removed from the franchise and could be added post-launch or in a subsequent title.

The game's first season started alongside early access and runs for eight weeks until 1st December. Ranked PvP modes are scheduled for 13th October, preceding the general release on 6th October, with the title already performing well on Xbox and Steam.
