Key information
Embark Studios is exploring the possibility of separating Arc Raiders into distinct PvE and PvPvE experiences. Executive producer Aleksander Grøndal acknowledged that the community is already divided regarding their preferred playstyles, noting that a formal split within the game is quite possible.
The studio previously implemented a matchmaking system designed to group players based on their likelihood to cooperate rather than engage in combat. Grøndal stated that while the team initially debated opening the door to co-op-only modes, they now recognize the importance of respecting how users want to enjoy the title, even if it diverges from original design intentions.
Implementing such a split presents internal challenges for the developers. Grøndal admitted that the proposal faced significant apprehension within the studio, as not everyone was in agreement regarding the shift in direction.
To address these concerns and evaluate the viability of a permanent separation, Embark is launching a limited-time PvE mode test in October. This trial aims to provide clarity for both the development team and the player base regarding the future structure of the game.
