Key information
The WD Black SN770M 2TB SSD is currently available for $259.99 at Best Buy. This price point sits only 8% higher than the drive's original launch cost, offering a significant reduction from the $349.99 to $399.99 range seen during recent storage shortages.
Designed as an M.2 2230 drive, the SN770M is compatible with popular gaming handhelds including the Steam Deck, ROG Ally, Legion Go, and Claw. While Micron has announced a 4TB M.2 2230 model, that capacity remains restricted to OEM units, leaving 2TB as the current consumer maximum.
The drive utilizes a PCIe 4.0 interface to achieve sequential read and write speeds reaching 5,150 MB/s and 4,850 MB/s. While these specifications are well-suited for modern handhelds, the Steam Deck is limited by its PCIe 3.0 interface, making the drive's performance capabilities somewhat excessive for that specific device.
At approximately $0.13 per gigabyte, the drive is positioned as a high-value option for users seeking to expand their handheld storage. Despite the release of newer alternatives like the Optimus GX 7100M, the SN770M maintains a competitive balance between cost and performance.
