Key information

Bit Reactor has officially initiated the process of rehiring former employees who were laid off shortly before the launch of Star Wars: Zero Company. The studio, which features veterans from Firaxis, previously faced a significant reduction in staff due to a lack of funding at the end of their project development cycle.

The developer confirmed the rehiring efforts via social media, noting that the team is being brought back to provide ongoing support for the strategy title. CEO Greg Foertsch described the initial layoffs as a difficult but necessary decision to ensure the studio could eventually reincorporate as many team members as possible.

While the studio has not released specific hiring figures, reports from Game File suggest that more than half of the original staff may have returned. Prior to this, the studio had reportedly dismissed 80% of its workforce despite the game receiving positive critical reception and selling an estimated 1 million copies.

Beyond immediate support for the game, the return of staff could potentially signal the green light for a future sequel, a prospect previously expressed as a desire by the director. Star Wars: Zero Company, an XCOM-style strategy game, was released on August 27, 2026, for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
