Key information

Wizards of the Coast announced Dungeons and Dragons: World of Warcraft as a massive Universes Beyond release for the tabletop RPG. The expansion encompasses the entire world of Azeroth up to The War Within and incorporates major story conflicts such as the Alliance versus Horde campaign, the Scourge, and the Burning Crusade, with Wizards suggesting DMs pick three conflicts to shape their campaigns.

The expansion adapts traditional MMO mechanics into tabletop gameplay by slowing down dungeons for non-linear exploration, stealth, and social interaction rather than direct combat rotations. Raids are reimagined as high-level dungeons featuring epic boss battles. Professions allow players to craft items using GP-measured ingredient values and defined crafting lists, while a forgiving reputation system rewards natural adventuring over repetitive grinding.

Game Designer Joey Haeck noted that players can ignore suggested level zones and build custom campaigns, while Principal Game Designer James Wyatt explained that Chromie Time allows out-of-order campaigns. Furthermore, iconic characters and dragons feature distinct lore adaptations, such as Blue Dragons combining cold damage with arcane spellcasting interference.

Dungeons and Dragons: World of Warcraft is scheduled to launch on November 17, arriving right before World of Warcraft's 22nd anniversary. The comprehensive release provides expansive lore, dungeons, bestiaries, and systems designed to let players experience Azeroth in ways not possible within the desktop MMO.
