Embark Studios has released the Frozen Trail update for Arc Raiders, marking the title's most significant expansion since its initial launch. This content drop coincides with a free weekend event that remains active until October 12.
The update introduces substantial gameplay additions, including a fresh map, varied weather conditions, and expanded arsenals featuring new weapons and enemies. Players can also utilize a revamped skill tree, a grappling hook for improved traversal, and a customizable base known as The Outpost, which allows for crafting via the Research Bench.
SteamDB data indicates that these changes successfully drove engagement, resulting in a six-month peak of 131,388 concurrent players on Steam within the first day. However, the developer has removed the Solo vs. Squads matchmaking option, citing a lack of incentive for players to utilize other available settings.
While the removal of the solo mode has drawn attention, Embark Studios noted that it is currently re-evaluating the feature for a potential future return. Additionally, the studio is preparing for a co-op mode test scheduled for October 13 while continuing to refine its anti-cheat detection systems.
