AMD has officially announced that its FSR 4 machine learning upscaling technology will expand to include APUs with integrated graphics by the end of this year. Jack Huynh, senior vice president of the computing and graphics group, confirmed this development during a media event in Seoul.

The company is currently optimizing its software stack to accommodate these integrated solutions. While FSR 4 was previously limited to RDNA 4-based Radeon RX 9000 series and RDNA 3-based Radeon RX 7000 series discrete cards, the upcoming update will bring support to devices such as the Strix Halo APUs, which utilize RDNA 3.5 integrated graphics.

Technical implementation for older architectures involves significant adjustments. Because RDNA 3 hardware lacks native FP8 support, AMD must convert the FSR 4.1 model to utilize INT8 data types. This requirement likely necessitates specific optimizations for the RDNA 3.5 architecture found in current APUs.

Looking ahead, AMD plans to broaden the availability of FSR 4 across its entire product lineup, including gaming laptops and handheld devices. While APUs are currently prioritized, the company also intends to bring FSR 4 support to RDNA 2-based Radeon RX 6000 series graphics cards in 2027.
