Key information
Amazon is seeking new actors to portray Atreus and Thrud in its upcoming God of War television adaptation. According to insider Daniel Richtman, the production intends to film the first and second seasons back-to-back to cover the narratives of the initial two games in the saga.
The casting search, which began in August, targets performers aged 14 to 17. This change is necessitated by a planned time jump for the second season, which is set to adapt the story of God of War Ragnarök. It remains unclear if these new actors will participate in the first season or join exclusively for the second.
The production has undergone significant restructuring, with the first season being completely restarted. Previous footage featuring Ryan Hurst as Kratos was discarded following his departure due to an injury. Dave Bautista has been cast as the new Kratos and is currently undergoing physical training for the role.
Filming for the series is scheduled to commence this month in Vancouver. While the first season will focus on the 2018 game, the decision to film consecutive seasons aims to streamline the adaptation of the franchise's early narrative arc.
