CD Projekt Red story director Marcin Blacha recently spoke about The Witcher 3 expansion titled Songs of the Past, which serves as the White Wolf's new final chapter after replacing Blood and Wine in that concluding role. The narrative pulls Geralt out of retirement to assist his old companion Dandelion after the bard receives urgent family business requiring a friend's support.

Discussing the new location, Blacha explained that Letten is Dandelion's homeland, though he has not visited in a long time. The setting is unfamiliar to both Geralt and players, which allows the studio to tell new stories and place Dandelion in a position where he must face responsibility, impacting Geralt as a character as well.

Blacha remained tight-lipped regarding specific details about the expansion. He declined to comment on whether the new region features links to the first Witcher game beyond a chain weapon, and he stayed quiet about potential returning characters besides Dandelion, stating only that he looks forward to player reactions to the new figures.

Regarding the mysterious foe Geralt faces, Blacha confirmed the antagonist is a core part of the region's mystery and a new challenge for the witcher, involving a curse and tree-spliced people. However, the studio withheld further narrative details and endings until the DLC launches.
