Undead Labs has announced that a closed beta for State of Decay 3 will begin on October 13, 2026. The studio aims to include more participants than ever before, with priority given to previous alpha testers. New players must register to be considered for selection, with notifications expected on the start date. The game is currently scheduled for a full release in 2027.
For those not selected, content creator Brian Menard and executive producer Patrick Hooley have released a three-hour gameplay video. This footage provides an extensive look at core mechanics, including combat, Plague clearing, base management, and character systems, serving as a comprehensive alternative to direct participation.
The update introduces significant mechanical changes, such as daily food and water requirements that directly impact survivor health and stamina. Combat has been refined with improved enemy AI, making stealth and noise management critical. Additionally, weapon ballistics now account for caliber differences, and base maintenance has become more complex.
The game world features expanded content, including new mission types, building interiors, and improved performance. Multiplayer support has been upgraded to allow up to three additional players to explore the map and access resources without distance restrictions, addressing previous limitations found in the franchise.
