Jagex announced a fourth mainline entry in the RuneScape series during RuneFest, temporarily using the title RuneScape 4 while development remains early and the game is still a decent way off.

Jesse America, who serves as vice president of studios and next-gen development at Jagex, stated in a prebrief that the project evolved from a planned survival spin-off expansion originally intended for 2027.

The upcoming title will utilize the Unreal Engine to feature Gielinor during the Sixth Age, specifically beginning in Ashenfall years following the events of RuneScape: Dragonwilds.

Jagex clarified that this new MMO will not replace existing games, but will instead complement them by building upon previous technology and community co-development lessons.
